This role is both technical and hands-on and works closely with the Business Unit Manager – Horticulture and would suit someone who is enthusiastic for supporting the day-to-day performance of the sweet potato enterprise. Key Responsibilities:
• Crop monitoring, soil and plant sampling, and evidence-based production improvement across the sweet potato program • Pest, disease and biosecurity risk monitoring and management, including implementation of HACCP and Freshcare protocols • Harvest forecasting, crop rotation scheduling and coordination with the Business Unit Manager on labour planning and production targets • Supervision and coordination of production staff during planting, growing and harvest periods • Quality assurance across harvesting, grading and post-harvest handling, supporting audit readiness and compliance documentation • Supporting workplace health and safety standards, including training and safe equipment operation on the production floor • Building strong working relationships with industry bodies, representatives, other growers and their companies (both locally and in the Eastern States) and suppliers
About You:
• At least 2 years of experience in horticulture production with sweet potato experience a strong favourable • Bachelor degree of Agriculture Science or Diploma of Horticulture highly regarded • Ability to lead team through day-to-day operations and liaise with staff and contractors • Sound knowledge of horticultural pests, weeds and chemical application processes • Strong communication both verbal and written and ability to work well with team members where English may not be their first language • Experience and knowledge of irrigation systems including drip, sprinklers and pivots • Strong organisational and time management skills • Implementation and lead by example on workplace health and safety, environmental expectations, farm compliance and record keeping • High attention to detail, particularly regarding quality assurance compliance and reporting • Willingness to work variable hours during peak production/seasonal periods • Hold a current driver’s licence
