Depending on the successful candidate's experience and capability, the role may be appointed at either level. This is an excellent opportunity to work directly with the General Counsel on strategic, cross-jurisdictional legal matters in a fast-paced, publicly listed technology business.

About the Role Working closely with the General Counsel and Legal Team, you'll play a key role in supporting EROAD's strategic and commercial objectives across New Zealand, Australia and North America. You'll have broad exposure to complex commercial and corporate matters while partnering with senior leaders across the business.

You’ll provide legal support across a broad range of matters, including contracts, disputes, privacy, risk, and intellectual property, while partnering with teams across the business on complex, cross-jurisdictional matters.

In this role you will:

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts

• Support major business transactions

• Manage disputes and pre-litigation matters, including working with external counsel where needed

• Support privacy and risk compliance across New Zealand, Australia and the US

• Manage and maintain EROAD’s intellectual property portfolio

• Triage legal requests through the team helpdesk and prioritise matters effectively

• Support the development of corporate policies, procedures and programmes

• Prepare training materials and provide legal guidance to the business

• Partner with cross-functional teams on a wide range of commercial, product, privacy, software and public company matters

What you’ll bring You’ll be a commercially minded legal professional who enjoys working at pace, uses sound judgment, and can provide clear, practical advice in a dynamic environment.

• LLB degree or higher

• 6+ years PQE in-house or in private practice, ideally with experience in commercial and technology contracts

• 10+ years PQE for Senior Legal Counsel level

• Hold, or be applying for, a current practising certificate

• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to provide clear, concise legal advice to senior stakeholders

• Commercially pragmatic approach, with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives

• Proactive, adaptable and able to work independently

• Highly organised, detail-focused, and comfortable managing multiple priorities

• Comfortable using AI and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and enhance legal service

• Experience using AI tools in a legal environment would be an advantage

Why you’ll love working at EROAD You'll be joining a collaborative and high-performing legal team where you'll work directly with the General Counsel, partner with senior leaders across the business, and gain exposure to complex commercial, technology and governance matters across multiple jurisdictions. This role offers genuine breadth, autonomy and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact from day one.
