About this role

In a Heavy Liquid Metal cooled nuclear system, various routes for aerosol formation have been identified. In a first step, the aerosol source term resulting from splashing of liquid metal particle on a surface has been determined using state-of the art aerosol measurement equipment. In the next stage we want to investigate the transport of these particles through the cover gas and piping system of a reactor using the AEOLUS setup. In this setup, liquid metal aerosols are generated by a nanogenerator, transported through a tube and detected. The evolution of the resulting particle size distribution (PSD) can then be studied as a function of various parameters such as the carrier gas flow rate, the pipe geometry and length,... This will allow to validate an in-house model that has been developed to describe the evolution of the PSD due to aerosol aglomeration and settling along the length of a tube.
