Radiation Technician Position Overview: Perform surveys, inspections, sample collections, and sample analysis in support of the Safety program at NFS. All work is done in accordance with written procedures. Most work involves a knowledge of mathematics and some chemistry. Location: On-site in Erwin, Tennessee. Your Day to Day as a Radiation Technician: <ul> <li>Perform contamination surveys – building, outside control, transition zones, etc.</li> <li>Collect and analyze stack samples.</li> <li>Inspect emergency eye wash fountains and safety showers.</li> <li>Perform personnel surveys.</li> <li>Inspect fire protection equipment.</li> <li>Calibrate air sampler and adjust flow meter rates.</li> <li>Inspect emergency lights.</li> <li>Survey respirator devices, assemble and maintain.</li> <li>Sample and analyze from sewer, ponds, streams, wells, etc.</li> <li>Analyze vegetation and soil samples.</li> <li>Collect and analyze IBM air samples.</li> <li>Measure toxic fumes.</li> <li>Perform contamination release surveys.</li> <li>Take high volume air samples.</li> <li>Perform noise level surveys.</li> <li>Make minor instrument repairs (such as hand monitors, PAC 4-G)</li> <li>Perform nasal smears and count.</li> <li>Perform shipping release surveys/labels, and recording of measurements.</li> <li>Inspect emergency shelter equipment.</li> <li>Perform routine dose rate surveys – beta/gamma.</li> <li>Perform response check and repair of hand monitors (replace face plates and batteries, cords, etc.).</li> <li>Set up and analyze results of portable air samplers.</li> <li>Change safety numbers and letters on plant safety bulletin board.</li> <li>Record data from instrumentation, requiring basic multiplication and division.</li> <li>Perform some lab analyses – environmental, stack sample, water, air samples.</li> <li>Check pH on water samples.</li> <li>Load and unload film badges.</li> <li>Weigh CO2 cylinders.</li> <li>Calibrate Air Sample Flow Meters.</li> <li>Perform calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division – usually calculated using a hand-held calculator.</li> </ul> Required Qualifications: <ul> <li>High School Diploma</li> <li>One year of College Chemistry or may substitute one year of College Physics</li> </ul> Pay: $36.15 The starting rate for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) is $36.15 per hour. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, retirement and/or other benefits.
