The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint two Precision Engineers to provide technical support for undergraduate and postgraduate students from across the School, and to provide technical support for research to academics and research personnel. The role also involves ensuring that a range of laboratory and teaching equipment is properly maintained.

This will include supporting the design and manufacture of specialised research and experimental apparatus to high levels of accuracy, using a range of techniques such as CAD/CAM, CNC and conventional machining, precision grinding, instrument fitting and hand fabrication. You will also advise and consult with students and academics on technical requirements, provide health and safety supervision in workshops and laboratories, and contribute to the teaching of manufacturing methods and feasibility of designs through seminars and practical sessions.

These roles require 100% onsite working. They also involve working the following hours:

Term 1 & 2 (see Upcoming term dates at the University of Warwick): Monday to Thursday, 12:00 - 20:00 with 30 minutes lunch; Friday, 08:00 - 15:00 with 30 minutes lunch. Term 3 & Outside term time: Monday to Thursday, 08:00 - 16:00 with 30 minutes lunch; Friday, 08:00 -15:00 with 30 minutes lunch.

About You

You will have successfully completed an Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent training/experience (e.g.: NVQ level 4; A-levels in Maths and/or a relevant science subject, and/or relevant experience at a high level in a similar work environment). A HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline is desirable.

You will have significant experience in a tool making or engineering development environment and a high level of skill and knowledge in a wide range of disciplines including computer numerical control (CNC) milling and turning and fitting, fabrication, various welding techniques and general workshop processes.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with a wide range of stakeholders and customers, including communicating technical information to a non-technical audience.

It is essential that you have current knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, standards and procedures (e.g.: COSHH, calibration of equipment) and awareness of specific legislative requirements (e.g.: British Standards), to ensure compliance in work areas and safe working practices is essential.

Ability to interpret complex instructions, analyse requirements, and implement detailed specifications, with strong attention to detail and accuracy is required.
