The role uses finite element analysis (FEA) and other analytical methods to evaluate structural integrity and performance against requirements, inform design decisions, and support verification. Day-to-Day Responsibilities: <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Perform mechanical analysis supporting optical assemblies for survival environments, including random vibration, mechanical shock, temperature extremes, and thermal shock</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Evaluate failure modes, including bolted joint slip, ductile material yielding, brittle material fracture, fatigue damage, and bonded joint integrity</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Evaluate operational performance, including elastic and thermo-elastic deformation, heat transfer impacts, and dynamic response</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Define assumptions, margins, and recommendations that are traceable to requirements and suitable for design decisions</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Support verification testing and development experiments</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Participate in internal and customer technical reviews, presenting methods, assumptions, results, and conclusions clearly</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Collaborate closely with mechanical design engineers, optical engineers, and customers during development</li> </ul> Education & Experience (Required): <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Minimum Education - BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering, or equivalent</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Five + years of applied mechanical analysis experience using FEA and other analytical methods to support product development decisions</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Experience supporting hardware development and verification testing (including test execution support and requirements-driven reporting)</li> </ul> Tools / Software (Required): <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:14.0pt">Proficiency with at least one mainstream structural FEA tool</li> </ul> Work Location (Required): Onsite-in Keene, NH, or Fairport, NY Travel Requirements: Occasional travel to other Corning sites or customer sites. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
