About this role

Are you passionate about building highly efficient cloud platforms? Do you thrive on improving observability, performance, and cost across large-scale infrastructure? Do you want to work with a team unlocking blockchain data at scale?

Elliptic is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to join our growing Core Platform team, responsible for building and managing the cloud systems that power our data and intelligence products.

We're looking for a hands-on engineer with experience in AWS, observability, and infrastructure automation to help build tools and processes that improve how we monitor, understand, and optimise the efficiency of our cloud infrastructure across AWS and Databricks.

This role is key to shaping the foundations of a scalable, high-performance platform, ensuring we continue to deliver world-class blockchain analytics while making thoughtful, data-driven infrastructure decisions.

The impact you will have:

You’ll be joining at a pivotal moment, as the first hire focused specifically on infrastructure optimisation. Working closely with engineers across our Core Platform and Data teams, you’ll help drive visibility into cloud usage, improve performance at scale, and guide better decision-making through tooling, automation, and collaboration. Your work will have a direct impact on how Elliptic grows, enabling us to operate more efficiently, maintain platform excellence, and scale our blockchain intelligence platform with confidence.

What you will do:

Design and build systems to monitor, manage, and optimise cloud infrastructure costs across AWS and Databricks

Implement cost observability tools, alerts, and dashboards to surface actionable insights to engineering teams

Collaborate with engineering teams to influence infrastructure and workload design for cost efficiency

Analyse trends in cloud service usage (e.g. EC2, S3, Databricks compute), identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and propose solutions

Build automation and self-service tools that enable developers to choose cost-effective patterns by default

Evaluate and implement AWS cost optimisation strategies (e.g. Savings Plans, Spot Instances, right-sizing) to improve efficiency and scale sustainably

Collaborate with Finance and Engineering to enhance cost visibility into cloud spend, improve forecasting accuracy, and strengthen cost allocation through better tagging practices.

Contribute to architecture design discussions and surface trade-offs between cost, performance, and scalability.

You will be a great fit here if you:

Enjoy owning cost and performance as an engineering problem

Are passionate about infrastructure optimisation, observability, and modern cloud tooling

Enjoy collaborating across teams and bringing clarity to complex system trade-offs

You strive for technical excellence but remain flexible and open-minded in your approach

Skilled at finding the sweet spot between short-term effectiveness and long-term strategy

Care about enabling other engineers to move faster, build resilient systems, and understand the impact of their choices

Our ideal candidate has:

Experience designing, maintaining, and optimising AWS infrastructure (especially EC2, S3, CloudWatch, Lambda)

Knowledge of Databricks compute environments (e.g. clusters, pricing tiers, Photon, streaming jobs, auto-scaling settings, etc.)

Experience working with or implementing cost observability tools (e.g. CloudZero, CloudHealth, AWS Cost Explorer, FinOps dashboards)

Strong understanding of the relationship between infrastructure usage and cloud spend

Confidence working in infrastructure-as-code workflows (Terraform preferred)

Familiarity with containerisation technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

Experience scripting or automating repetitive tasks

Strong communication and documentation skills

Bonus Points for:

Familiarity with orchestration platforms like Airflow and/or Databricks Workflows

Prior experience in a FinOps role or cost responsibility as part of a platform or infrastructure team

An interest in cryptocurrency and/or blockchain technology
