The Role As a Range Support Technician, you will be part of a hands-on operational team responsible for delivering naval trials by physically deploying, moving, and recovering equipment across both marine and land environments. Day-to-day, you’ll work outdoors in a varied and practical role by operating boats and heavy equipment, supporting test activities, and ensuring trials run safely and effectively from setup through to completion. Your responsibilities will include: <ul> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Operating boats (including RIBs) to deploy and recover equipment during trials</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Supporting naval test activities by placing and retrieving equipment in the water</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Operating plant and vehicles (HGVs, cranes, forklifts, telehandlers) to move and position equipment</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Preparing, loading, and unloading trial equipment safely and efficiently</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Supporting a variety of test activities including underwater systems, weapons trials, and maritime operations</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Working as part of a close-knit team to deliver safe and successful trial outcomes</li> </ul> Essential experience of the Range Support Technician: <ul> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Experience working in a practical, hands-on environment</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Comfortable working outdoors and at sea</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Experience operating vehicles or plant equipment (e.g. forklifts, cranes, HGVs or similar)</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Strong awareness of safety and ability to follow procedures</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic operational environment</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude</li> </ul> Essential qualifications for the Range Support Technician: <ul> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Full UK driving licence</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Willingness and ability to obtain relevant licences (e.g. plant, marine, HGV)</li> <li style="font-size:14.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Ability to meet medical and sea survival requirements</li> </ul> We value difference and we don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. This role is 37 hours per week based at our BUTEC site with a minimum average site attendance of 5 days per week. BUTEC (British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre) is a specialised facility focused on underwater testing and evaluation. It supports the development and assessment of various maritime systems including submarines, autonomous underwater vehicles and naval munitions. Working towards the advancement of underwater technology including innovations in sonar, navigation and communication systems in real-world scenarios.
