Our Emergency Response Technicians play a huge role in the day-to-day safe operations of our Mills. As our First Responders you will engage in high angle rescue, fire response, first aid calls, incident investigations, emergency response planning, and any number of other activities throughout your shift, and your career. A Pulp Mill is a complex and potentially hazardous environment. You bring a keen eye for spotting hazards, exceptional work ethic, and the ability to work both independently and within teams. Emergency Response <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Responsible for all initial Emergency Response at the Canfor Pulp facilities including Fire, First Aid, Rescue and Hazmat. The Safety Team operates as the Incident Command and all ERC related support flows through the Advisor. The Safety Advisor is the first point of contact to external supports like the Prince George Fire Department, BCEHS, and RCMP.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Responsible for the periodic inspections, maintenance and inventory of all Emergency Response equipment including those related to Fire, First Aid, Rescue and Hazmat</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">The Safety Advisor team leads the Emergency Response Crew at each site. This includes but is not limited to conducting training, providing training plans, ensuring proficiency, monitoring equipment and leading the ERC in the event of an Emergency.</li> </ul> Evacuation, CSE & Rescue <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Manage the Evacuation Program, including accountability for employees, contractors, and visitors (sign-in), conducting drills, performing audits, and providing training.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Oversee the Confined Space Entry (CSE) Program, which involves testing, auditing, training, implementation, and review. The Safety Advisor is responsible for reviewing and approving CSE entry permits as requested by operations.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Develop and implement rescue plans for Confined Space Entry (CSE) and Fall Protection.</li> </ul> Fire Protection <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Responsible for regulatory Fire Protection Inspections, including but not limited to Sprinkler Inspections, Fire OS&Y/Valve Inspections, PIV Inspections. The Advisor is to relay any concerns or deficiencies to the appropriate site personnel to ensure it is rectified.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Management of Marsh Impairment Program and online impairment submissions. This includes Fire Sprinkler, Valve and Alarm inspections – return to service.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Responsible for Fire Main Flushing, Fire Hydrant Flushing and capacity testing, Fire Hose Testing, Fire Extinguisher Inspections, Replacement and Inventory, Fire Hose Station Inspection Replacement and Inventory, Fire Pump Run Ups and Monitoring.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Administration of the Hot Work Program including permit program issuing and collection as well as regular audits of the program. </li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Responsible for PGFRS (City Fire) Inspection Deficiency Reporting and audit follow up.</li> </ul> Safety <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Respond to all illness and injury incidents at CPL, providing medical aid, treatment, recommendations, and elevating care when necessary. The Safety Advisor is also responsible for documenting all first aid-related incidents into Enablon and participating in follow-up investigations as needed.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Participate in incident investigations alongside operations, maintenance, and other relevant stakeholders.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Administer and execute safety initiatives and programs at CPL, including providing training to employees on these programs (e.g., AED installations).</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Conduct periodic safety audits, including but not limited to Confined Space Entry, Dust, Fire, Hot Work, Guarding, and PPE.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Oversee respiratory protection programs across facilities, including coordinating annual tests, weekly and monthly SCBA inspections, ISCBA training, and fit testing.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Manage heat stress testing in facilities, including reporting and establishing work/rest ratios.</li> </ul> Gas Monitoring <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Conduct area gas sweeps as required by operations, including detecting the type of gas, measuring gas levels, and assessing the overall extent of the suspected gas. The Safety Advisor is responsible for completing the Gas Incident Report and sharing findings with the requestor and other relevant stakeholders.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Oversee the Gas Detector Program, which includes employee training, gas detector calibration and testing, and managing employee sign-outs.</li> </ul> Administration <ul> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Oversee the audiometric program, coordinating and delivering audiometric testing across the facilities.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Conduct periodic sound level testing and area audits.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Handle visitor and general inquiries during off-shifts, manage chemical deliveries, truck scaling, material removal, the tool loan program, parking passes, alarm monitoring, OT meals, and other related tasks.</li> <li class="paragraph" style="text-align:justify;font-family:verdana, geneva, sans-serif;font-size:12.0pt;color:black">Coordination and administration of the Insurance (Marsh) Underwriter Inspections including loss prevention recommendations, BLRB Audit Program, Fire Pump Testing, Hydrant Flow Testing and the impairment program.</li> </ul> Our people drive our continued success.
