Requisition Id 16551 Overview: Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security. We are seeking a Maintenance Engineer with experience in maximizing reliability and availability through preventative and predictive maintenance to improve mission outcomes including uptime, safe operation, and research continuity. This position is within the Plasma Enrichment Process Management Group, which is in the Enrichment Science and Engineering Division (ESED) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). Major Duties/Responsibilities: Reliability & maintenance engineering <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Develop/optimize PM/PdM/CBM strategies (intervals, task lists, acceptance criteria).</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Lead RCA (5-Why, fishbone, fault tree) and drive corrective/preventive actions.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Define reliability KPIs and dashboards (MTBF, MTTR, downtime, OEE) and use them to prioritize work.</li> </ul> CMMS, asset data, and spares <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Support asset hierarchy, BOMs, critical spares strategy, reorder points, kitting.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Improve work order quality (failure codes, problem/cause/action, time, parts).</li> </ul> Planning, procedures, and safety <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Create job plans, LOTO steps, commissioning/verification checklists, calibration/inspection requirements.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ensure compliance with ORNL/DOE safety, QA, and configuration control requirements.</li> </ul> Troubleshooting support <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Provide engineering support for complex failures across mechanical/electrical/instrumentation.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Coordinate with technicians, vendors, and engineers to restore equipment and prevent recurrence.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">May perform hands-on troubleshooting/repair as needed</li> </ul> Deliver ORNL’s mission by aligning behaviors, priorities, and interactions with our core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service. Basic Qualifications: <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or related; 5+ years relevant experience in industrial/research maintenance/reliability. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Demonstrated experience building/improving PM/PdM programs and using a CMMS (name common systems if applicable).</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Experience with vacuum systems (installation, leak checking, pump maintenance, gauges/valves).</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to analyze failures and implement corrective actions (RCA evidence).</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to obtain and maintain a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship</li> </ul> Preferred Qualifications: <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Professional certification in maintenance or reliability engineering.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Experience with high voltage systems and power supplies.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Experience with Lean/Six Sigma.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Excellent written and oral communication skills.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Active DOE Q security clearance or the ability to obtain one.</li> </ul> Special Requirements: <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions.
