About this role

Location: Life and Mind Building, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3EL

The University of Oxford is a stimulating work environment, which enjoys an international reputation as a world-class centre of excellence. Our research plays a key role in tackling many global challenges, from reducing our carbon emissions to developing vaccines during a pandemic.

The Oxford Centre for Emerging Minds Research is a newly funded research centre to conduct world class research that contributes to a world where differences between children and young people are understood and accepted, strengths are capitalised on, and mental health difficulties are prevented or addressed early in life.

We are seeking a researcher to lead a programme of work to develop a new strengths and abilities assessment toolkit to enhance strengths-based education for neurodivergent primary school-aged children. This will involve working closely with teams conducting parallel work with preschool children and adolescents within the ‘All About Me’ project.

About the Role

The post is funded until 30 September 2030 and is based in the Department of Experimental Psychology, Life and Mind Building. The post is full time; however, consideration would be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE) on a pro rata basis.

You will design and implement a high quality programme of research to generate new knowledge to meet the All About Me project’s objectives, with a specific focus on primary-school aged children. You will disseminate findings, through research articles and national/international conferences. You will manage the research budget and delegate work to junior members of the team and coach other members of the group on specialist methodologies or procedures. The role will provide the ideal opportunity and environment for a researcher looking to develop their career in a way that brings about meaningful change to the lives of neurodiverse children and their families.

About You

You will hold a relevant Ph.D/D.Phil with post-qualification research experience in psychology or a relevant discipline with strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in a relevant field. Experience of working with AI / assistive technology in education/mental health/cognition focused research is desirable.
