The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic and fast-paced Neurosurgery team. About the Role: As a Neurosurgery NP at UMMC, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive care for neurosurgical patients across the continuum—from evaluation and acute management to post-operative care. You will work closely with attending neurosurgeons, residents, and interdisciplinary teams in a high-acuity environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Manage inpatient neurosurgical patients in collaboration with physicians and care teams • Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and post-operative management • First assist in surgical procedures (based on privileging) • Coordinate care for complex neurosurgical patients • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and treatment planning • Provide education and support to patients and families
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (AGACNP preferred) • Active Maryland NP license and DEA (or eligibility) • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner • Strong clinical background in acute care, ICU, neurology, or neurosurgery preferred • Excellent critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred Experience:
• Prior neurosurgery, neurology, or surgical subspecialty experience • Exposure to high-acuity inpatient or ICU environments • Academic medical center experience preferred • Ability to manage complex and rapidly changing clinical situations
