Job Requirements Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assessing surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position requires careful observation and communication of patient status to identify needs and ensure appropriate care delivery, working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, and upholding patient safety and comfort. Additional responsibilities include supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining patient rooms and supplies, providing wound care and management of orthopedic devices, monitoring blood glucose levels, and responding promptly to patient alarms. The technician strictly follows safety protocols, promotes cost-effective care practices, and contributes to optimizing patient flow, while performing all other duties as assigned.
Work Experience Education and Experience requirements for the Patient Care Technician I position include a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, previous direct patient care experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate within a team, as well as the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in high-pressure environments. Additionally, proficiency in utilizing computer systems is required. The position entails performing accurate blood glucose testing and executing delegated nursing tasks with respect for the patient’s age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic requirements.
