About this role
What will you be doing?
As a Mechanical Handling Engineer, you will join the team in Warrington to work on Nuclear Projects.
The work involves the design and development of bespoke mechanical systems used to retrieve, handle and manage radioactive waste where human access is not possible.
This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanical engineer looking to work on long-term, nationally significant nuclear programmes.
You’ll support mechanical engineering activities related to:
Mechanical handling equipmentPlant systems and engineered equipmentPipework, vessels, supports and structural steelworkEquipment used for waste handling, processing or containmentYou will contribute across the full mechanical design lifecycle, including:
Concept design of waste retrieval and remote handling equipmentDetailed mechanical design and production of manufacturing drawingsDesign for manufacture and assembly (DfMA)Support to fabrication, installation and commissioning activitiesMechanical handling systems including lifting, positioning and manipulation.All work is carried out under strict nuclear safety, quality and assurance requirements.
Required Skills:
Candidates should have working knowledge of:
BS 8888 (technical product documentation)GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)AutoCAD and/or Autodesk InventorConcept, detail and manufacturing design activitiesMechanical handling principlesCIMAGE (or similar nuclear design / data management tools)Application of sound engineering judgement.Safety & Regulatory Awareness:
You should have awareness of working within regulated environments, including:
CDM RegulationsPUWERLOLERSafety-critical design and assurance processesDirect nuclear experience is beneficial but not essential — experience from defence, oil & gas, heavy plant or offshore engineering is highly transferable.Required Qualifications:
