About this role
As a Mechanical Engineer , you will join Derby team to support our activities within the Nuclear sector.
You will be responsible for the design and delivery of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) layouts, modules, and installation assemblies for the Outage area within the Reactor Island of the project.
Working as part of a core Layout and Installations team, the role will take ownership of a defined area of the Reactor Island design. You will develop plant arrangements, define modularisation strategies, and determine construction, installation, and commissioning methodologies across the full lifecycle of the plant.
Getting layout, modularisation, and installation design right is fundamental to the success of the SMR programme and a key enabler of our innovative, modular build philosophy.
Location: Derby On Site: 2 times per week Clearance: BPSS Experience Level: 3-10 YOE Key Responsibilities:
Deliver the Outage Block design within Reactor Island as part of an Integrated Project Team (IPT), coordinating inputs from disciplines including Operations, Maintenance, Civils, Architecture, E3S, Human Factors, Systems, Components, CAD, Supply Chain, and Build Certainty.Develop innovative mechanical and layout solutions, applying industry best practice and novel approaches within established engineering governance.Champion safety by embedding ONR Safety Assessment Principles, RR SMR E3S Principles, and applicable layout guidance (EPRI, European Utility Requirements, INPO).Progress plant layout designs and associated installation assemblies through formal design reviews.Contribute to requirements definition, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure robust, buildable, and operable solutions. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.Desirable Skills:
Experience in nuclear, power generation, or other safety-critical industriesKnowledge of ONR safety principles, INPO guidance, or similar regulatory frameworksUnderstanding of power station operations, outage activities, and maintenance planningExperience with modular construction and constructability assessmentsFamiliarity with CDM regulations and construction sequencingAwareness of decommissioning requirements and through-life asset management Why join us?
