Job summary
The post-holder will be fully accredited in General Practice with appropriate experience in Community Child Health. Excellent communication & liaison skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team are essential. The department proactively promotes clinical governance, and the appointee should be able to demonstrate skills in audit/quality improvement, risk management & evidence-based guidelines. As a University hospital, there is a strong commitment to teaching medical students and junior doctors. The post holder is expected to play an active role in all undergraduate and postgraduate training activities.
The post will be based in the department of Community Paediatrics at Hackney Ark with clinical sessions undertaken at the Hackney Ark and other Community venues as required. There will be an average of 3.2 PA of direct clinical care and 0.8 PA allocated for supporting professional activities. As a senior employee of the Trust the post holder will work in close co-operation with and support other clinical, medical, professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality, safe health care to patients.
As a department we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly, for example the opportunity of holding remote clinics, which may allow working from home at times.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior clinical role providing specialist leadership within the Looked After Children (LAC) Health Service and Child Protection Service. The post holder delivers and supervises weekly Health in Care Clinics, undertakes Initial and Review Health Assessments, prepares statutory health reports and healthcare plans, and contributes to adoption and fostering health assessments. The role requires close multi-agency working with social care, CAMHS, primary care, paediatrics, sexual health and other specialist services to ensure the health needs of looked after children are met.
The post holder provides clinical advice, supervision and support to colleagues, contributes to service development and strategic planning, and works alongside the Named Doctor for Looked After Children to maintain high-quality, compliant services.
The role also forms part of the daytime Child Protection Medical Examination on-call rota, undertaking assessments of children where abuse or neglect is suspected, completing detailed medical reports and body maps, and liaising with partner agencies. The post holder is required to maintain safeguarding competencies through regular supervision, peer review and ongoing professional development.
This role is essential to meeting statutory responsibilities, safeguarding requirements and contractual performance targets.

Education / Qualifications Essential
MRCGP Full GMC registration and inclusion on the GP Register
Desirable
Higher degree (e.g. MSc, MD). Additional training relevant to Looked After Children and Child Protection
Experience Essential
Significant experience in Community Paediatrics Clinical experience in General Practice Experience within a Looked After Children (LAC) Health in Care Team Definitive Child Protection experience, including child protection medical assessments and report writing Experience of working in multi-agency settings
