About this role

Program dates: June 2nd, 2025 – End date: August 7th, 2025

Location: Hybrid (three days per week on-site (Tu-Thurs) in our NYC office with one day remote). Company laptop will be provided for the duration of the program.

Weekly schedule: 28 hours per week, 9:00am-5:00pm, with a one-hour lunch break.

Pay rate: $16.50/hour

As an HBG Editorial Intern, you will have the opportunity to work closely with seasoned professionals and gain hands-on professional experience as you own day-to-day tasks, help with special projects, and attend departmental meetings.

To enhance your work experience, we offer educational sessions featuring speakers from all departments of the company as well as networking and career development opportunities.

It would be ideal to have a candidate interested in the editorial and production work of an illustrated book publisher. A person who enjoys lifestyle books (i.e., cookbooks, design books, sports, pop culture, etc.) is a plus. The candidate should be able to work in a deadline-oriented environment and juggle multiple tasks at one time. Required knowledge of the Office suite of programs.

Who you are:

Interested in exploring a career in book publishing, especially in the editorial and production work of an illustrated book publisherSelf-starter with strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skillsEnthusiastic and excited about discussing recent books you’ve readA keen interest in visual and lifestyle books (i.e., cookbooks, design books, sports, pop culture, etc.)Possess a great attitude and a desire to learn as well as excellent organizational skillsAbility to work collaboratively with a team and contribute insightsResourceful with the ability to balance multiple responsibilities, work independently, and in a deadline-oriented environmentMust be results driven, and take appropriate steps to achieve goals while taking ownership of situations as neededProficient in the MS Office Suite, including Word and ExcelFamiliarity with Powerpoint, Adobe Acrobat, and InDesign is a plus

What you will learn:

Log, review, and draft feedback on manuscript submissionsResearch industry and lifestyle trends with goal of creating resource documents for the editorial teamManage the visual program for an illustrated bookUnderstand an illustrated book schedule and aspects of the production processAssist with mailings as requestedGeneral administrative duties
