Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology

Are you an enthusiastic, motivated Consultant looking for an opportunity to help shape and transform a Diabetes and Endocrinology Service? We are looking for a consultant to join our team at our Scarborough Hospital Site on a permanent basis.

This is a time of transformation of our department as we work towards a consultant of the week model. Our service is evolving to include teaching and research opportunities which makes this an interesting time to join us and be part of our team.

You will join our multi-disciplinary team providing a broad range of outpatient services across the areas of Scarborough, Bridlington and Malton. This beautiful catchment area encompasses both Coastal and North Yorkshire Moor areas, serving a diverse patient base.

Our broad range of services includes:

Insulin pumps Antenatal Transition Diabetic foot clinics MES and Endocrine testing The development of inpatient care We work closely with the well-established service at York, with access to a fortnightly endocrine MDT, a fortnightly adrenal MDT, a weekly diabetes and pump MDT, and a pituitary MDT hosted at Hull.

Main duties of the job

You will be joining our existing team of 3 Consultants as we develop both inpatient outpatient diabetes and endocrinology services.

You will share inpatient ward responsibility which we are aiming to be a duty-week rota. There are significant opportunities to lead and develop key areas of the service, including diabetes technology, antenatal care, and the multidisciplinary diabetic foot service.

The post includes a commitment to the General Medicine on-call rota, currently a 1-in-16 pattern that averages to around one weekend every two months and a monthly weekday evening cover.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

MRCP Registered with and holds a licence to practice with the GMC Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in GIM, Diabetes & Endocrinology via; -CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) - CESR or European Community Rights (within 6 months of completing a training programme recognised for the award of CCT or equivalent) Experience in Diabetes & Endocrinology Medicine

Desirable

Substantive NHS experience MD or equivalent Higher Degree or evidence of relevant research

Clinical practice/ competence Essential

Able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and skill within GIM, Diabetes and Endocrinology Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and the requirements of Clinical Governance and Audit

Teaching & supervision Essential

Experience of teaching undergraduate and post graduate trainees

Leadership Essential

Capable of building trust and confidence Able & willing to take on leadership roles Ability to organise and manage the department targets
