About this role
The Payment Methods team, as the name suggests, is responsible for letting users choose their preferred payment methods on Uber platform. The team is on a mission to empower users with a seamless and secure payment experience across all Uber apps.
This is a high-impact, collaborative team of passionate backend and frontend engineers who tackle complex challenges and directly influence how users pay on the Uber apps.
In this Android Staff Engineer role, you'll be a technical leader, driving innovation and excellence within the Payments Methods Mobile team. You'll leverage your expertise to define the roadmap, tackle critical problems, and guide the team to deliver impactful solutions.
About the Role
What the Candidate Will Do
- Be a technical leader who actively identifies and tackles critical engineering and business problems within the Payments space - You'll have the autonomy to define problems, propose solutions, and lead their execution with minimal oversight - Develop and implement a strategic vision and roadmap for the Payment Methods team - Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the members of Payments Methods team, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation - Guide team members in best practices for code, documentation, testing, and monitoring, setting a high bar for engineering quality - Work effectively with cross-functional partners (product, design, business development) to ensure that technical solutions align with business goals
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field - 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of building, implementing, and maintaining complex large-scale applications - Proficient in Android engineering & tools with up-to-date knowledge of the latest developments - Strong understanding of best practices in code, documentation, testing, and monitoring - Experience in leading and mentoring engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in applying design thinking to drive innovation and product improvements in payment space - Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, fostering a culture of excellence - Excellent communication and collaboration skills to influence stakeholders and drive adoption of technical solutions
Bonus Points
- Experience working closely with backend teams, with a good understanding of backend principles and how they integrate with front-end solutions - Familiarity with iOS development is a plus
