Job summary

A rare opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Sexual Health and Contraception (SHAC) team in Brighton and Hove. SHAC is an integrated service operating across 3 sites in the city, with Outreach teams providing care to the city's most vulnerable and marginalised groups in non-clinical settings. We are progressive, multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive, patient focused services.

We are looking for a experienced registered nurse to fill the role of B7 Nurse Team Leader with a focus on registered and unregistered nurse practice education. The successful candidate will take a strategic and professional and oversight for the delivery of training within the nursing team and be responsible for the delivery of expert care within the speciality. It is therefore essential that the post holder has recognised qualifications in the provision of contraception and sexual health care. A Non-Medical Prescribing qualification is desirable.

Extensive experience of safeguarding is essential, as is a recognised teaching qualification. Excellent communication and team working skills are imperative. Flexibility in working hours is expected.

Main duties of the job

To work towards achieving a harmonious working environment to encourage team working to flourish.

To work to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with patients, colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team.

To liaise with all other disciplines/ voluntary agencies, building partnerships to promote reproductive and sexual health across services and ensure the service meets the needs of a broad range of patients, especially vulnerable and hard to reach groups.

To lead and attend staff meetings, and engage in working parties as requested, to ensure timely access to information and be part of the decision-making process of the service.

To participate in a range of ways to enable up-to-date knowledge of events, news and policies, enhancing the promotion of an open, no-blame culture.

Job description Job responsibilities

To plan, implement and participate in effective health promotion programmes, to support national and local targets, participating where appropriate and where required, in educational events around reproductive and sexual health care issues, dependent on service delivery needs and in agreement with senior colleagues.

To participate in clinical audit as requested by senior colleagues, completing and submitting statistical returns as required, promoting service development and evaluating service standards and to undertake/participate in audit/research appropriate to the speciality to monitor, evaluate and improve practice.

To liaise and develop robust referral pathways with multi-agency key service providers and partners to support delivery of actions to improve access and uptake of the services available.

To manage change within the clinical and non-clinical teams as the service develops, including the need for training and workforce planning.

To develop, implement and monitor strategies and interventions to achieve the targets identified within the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy, Sexual Health Strategy, NICE guidance and Childrens NSF as well as other local and national policy.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria. For example, applicants for the Senior HCA role must be able to evidence a minimum of 2 years experience in the same role to qualify for sponsorship.

Person Specification

Experience/ Qualifications Essential

First level Registered Nurse. Evidence of post-graduate experience and recognised qualifications within the specialist area to include contraception (DFSRH), GUM, HIV or equivalent experience at Band 6 level Current NMC registration Teaching and Assessing qualification Ability to run nurse only provided clinics Competent in utilisation of contraception knowledge and skills Undertake patient care autonomously within agreed policies and procedures, and using patient group directives (PGDs) or working as an independent nurse prescriber Adaptable and able to cope with unpredictable changes to workload

Desirable

MSc or working towards Non medical prescriber BSc in Nursing

Skills Essential

Trained educator, competent to deliver a range of principles and programme content Effective teaching and presentation skills Excellent working knowledge of infection prevention strategies Experience of undertaking patient care autonomously within agreed policies and procedures and working as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber or using Patient Group Directions. Able to manage frequent distressing situations and challenging behaviours and support other team members Able to respond to emergencies in an effective way Autonomous practitioner and team player. Innovative and self- motivated Able to plan and organise workload for self and others on a day to day basis Proven understanding of clinical governance with risk management, its importance and its application Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and professionals from other agencies, as appropriate Confidently deal with exposure to highly distressing or emotional circumstances with the knowledge that support services are available.
