Job summary
The successful candidate will work under the close supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist to support an individual living in Mere, Wiltshire, in their neurorehabilitation following atraumatic brain injury. The client has identified goals around social activities and dating, and requires support to access these activities. Funding is provided for 1.5 hours a week with the client, 1 hour of supervision a month (split into 2x30 minute sessions), and 2 hours of travel per session to travel to the client's home (paid at half the clinical rate plus 45p per mile).
As an Associate Assistant Psychologist, you will not be under a fixed-hour employment contract. Instead, you to work only the hours funded for the client. Sessions may take place in the evening or weekends depending on the activities that the client wishes to attend.This flexibility makes the role ideal for individuals balancing other commitments, such as furthereducation or part-time work.
You will need to register as self-employed with HMRC, and pay your own tax. You will require Indemnity Insurance, registration with the Information Commissioners Office, and an up to date DBS. Support will be provided to the successful applicant on the registrations.

Responsibilities include:
Work 1:1 with the client to implement structured social skills interventions designed by the Clinical Psychologist. Support the client in identifying, planning, and attending local community activities, hobbies, and social groups to reduce isolation. Provide real-time, gentle feedback and coaching on social cues, conversation flow, and boundary-setting during community outings. Assist the client in planning and preparing for dating activities (e.g., choosing venues, organizing transport, managing time). Provide a collaborative, non-judgmental space for the client to talk about dating, romance, and intimacy. Deliver tailored advice and role-play scenarios focusing on the dating scene, including online dating safety, reading romantic cues, managing rejection, and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

Job Purpose
This is a unique and rewarding role for a psychology graduate to gain hands-on clinical experience under the direct supervision of a qualified Clinical Psychologist. The successful candidate will work directly with an individual who has sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
The primary focus of this role is to facilitate cognitive and social rehabilitation by helping the client rebuild social confidence, access community activities, and navigate the complexities of modern dating. You will act as a structured support system, providing practical assistance, behavioural coaching, and a safe space for the client to discuss relationship goals and social skills.
Knowledge and Training
Undergraduate or Masters degree in Psychology.
Experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist or in a rehabilitation setting with individuals with additional learning or neurological needs.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical and Client Care
Deliver tailored brain injury rehabilitation interventions directly to the client in the community or via online platforms. Work 1:1 with the client to implement structured social skills interventions designed by the supervising Clinical Psychologist. Support therapeutic activities and work closely with families to help them integrate these strategies into their daily routines. Support the client in identifying, planning, and attending local community activities, hobbies, and social groups to reduce isolation. Provide real-time, gentle feedback and coaching on social cues, conversation flow, and boundary-setting during community outings. Assist the client in planning and preparing for dating activities (e.g., choosing venues, organizing transport, managing time). Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) & Service Collaboration
Collaborate actively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and achieve patient-centred goals. Contribute directly to psychological assessments and the development of clinical interventions under the guidance of the supervisor. Contribute to the ongoing formulation and risk assessment of the clients cognitive and emotional needs.Documentation, IT, and Clinical Administration
Maintain accurate, confidential, and detailed progress notes following every session using online clinical notes systems. Utilize basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and email, to manage administrative tasks, generate reports, and maintain professional correspondence. Ensure professional registration requirements are met, including maintaining Professional Indemnity Insurance and registration with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) (support will be provided to set this up upon successful appointment).Training and Supervision
Actively participate in regular, comprehensive clinical supervision with the qualified Clinical Psychologist to discuss the clients progress, review interventions, and ensure safe practice.Working Conditions
The post holder will be required to visit the patient in their own home to conduct sessions, and take the client to community activities.
The post holder will be required to drive for up to 1 hour at a time, and often up to 3 hours in a day.
There is a minimal time requirement for VDU and computer use.
The post holder is required to concentrate intensely for prolonged periods during individual sessions, sometimes with challenging and emotional individuals on a one-to-one basis.
There may be times when the client is confused and agitated.

Qualifications Essential
Undergraduate degree in Psychology (BSc/BA) or an accredited conversion course meeting Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) with the BPS. Experience working or volunteering with individuals with neurological conditions, mental health difficulties, or learning disabilities .
Desirable
Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (e.g., MSc in Clinical/Neuropsychology).
