Job summary
This is an exciting role within our practice to join us as a Clinical Coding & Workflow Administrator.
You will be responsible for the SNOMED coding of relevant information into patients' electronic healthcare records on the clinical system, in an accurate, timely, safe and efficient manner.
In addition, the post holder will be a team player who can use their initiative to prioritise their workload and support the team, providing administrative support, in line with the needs of the organisation.
Main duties of the job
To accurately code data on the clinical system into the patients' medical record and workflow documents to staff members where appropriate.
Identify relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action as required.
Identify and refer any clinical actions to the appropriate team including the GPs.
Scanning patient related documentationand attaching scanned documents to patients' healthcare records
About us
We are a friendly family practice and have been looking after our local population for over 90 years.
Our clinical team at Newburn Surgery includes six GPs, two Practice Nurses and two Health Care Assistants.
The practice is managed by a Practice Manager and a Deputy Practice Manager
We are a teaching practice training medical students, doctors and nurses.
We are a member of the Newcastle Outer West Primary Care Network.
We use SystmOne as our clinical system.

Accurately coding data on the clinical system into the patients' medical record and workflow documents to staff members where appropriate.
Identifying relevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, coding appropriately and completing any detailed action as required.
Identify the higher risk areas that require input or knowledge from the clinical team, including safeguarding issues
Identify and refer any clinical actions to the appropriate team including the GPs
Actioning all incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner
Scanning patient related documentation & attaching scanned documents to patients healthcare records
In addition, the post holder will
Be a team player who can use their initiative to prioritise their workload and support the team, providing administrative support, in line with the needs of the organisation.
Provide cover during reception staff absences and annual leave.
Support all clinical staff with general administrative tasks as requested.
Maintaining a clean, tidy, effective working area at all times
Complete opening and closing procedures in accordance with the administration team.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths. Experience of Clinical Coding. Knowledge of SystmOne software. Proficient with Office and Outlook. Confident and articulate communicator with a clear speaking voice and strong telephone handling skills.
Desirable
Experience of working in primary care. Ability to work as a team member and independently.
