Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the upper GI service as a Band 7 CNS.

You will be supported by the multidisciplinary upper GI team

The purpose of the job is to provide information, advice, support, assessment, Interventions, support and follow up for Upper GI patients . The post holder will be required to continually develop and monitor the effectiveness of the services provided by the Trust. In addition, you will be required to liaise and communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless and effective care for patients.

Main duties of the job

Ensure nursing care is delivered in an expert and professional manner compatible withcurrent research-based protocols and be responsible for maintaining accurate, effectiveand comprehensive written nursing records.

Provision of information, advice and support to inpatients, outpatients and theirrelatives/carers.

Provide support to ward staff and act as a liaison between services including liaison between GPs, community teams and other MDTs.

Provide support to services to ensure timely and appropriate preadmission care and inpatient interventions

Ensure effective liaison and referral processes with other specialities e.g. oncology andpalliative care.

Provide support to cancer services in monitoring patient progress withinthe pathways/MDT preparation.

Develop and maintain Professional competence, authority and credibility through clinical practice.

Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of evidence based nursing while practising standards, guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways

The Upper GI cancer nurse specialist within the Gastroenterology service of Blackpool Teaching Hospitals works collaboratively with Gastroenterologists, Oncologists, radiologists and surgeons across the cancer networks for the upper GI and HPB cancer services.

Education and Qualification Essential

Registered Adult Nurse Teaching and Assessing qualification Leadership and Management qualification

Desirable

Advanced communication skills Leadership and management qualification Teaching & Assessment qualification

Experience and Knowledge Essential

Experience and Knowledge Evidence of continuous professional development Participation in service development Substantial post registration experience in clinical nursing Experience in working in a cancer related nursing role

Participation/experience of audit research

Skills and Abilities Essential

Experience in communicating and presenting patient related data to a varied MDT Ability to prioritise and flex according to fluctuations in demand Proven ability to lead teams Confident skilled, compassionate, communicator Experience in working with patients and family who have a cancer diagnosis
