At the heart of King's College Hospital is the Neurosciences Centre, providing highly specialised care for both children and adults at local, regional, national, and international levels.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a fast-paced and highly specialised Neuro Theatreenvironment supporting a wide range of complex procedures, including:

Neurosurgery Complex spinal surgery Neuroangiography and interventional neuroradiology MRI under anaesthesia/sedation Major trauma and emergency neurosurgical care We are seeking a committed, innovative, and theatre-experienced BSc RN/ODP to join our senior nursing team as Neuro Theatre Clinical Manager for the Scrub Team. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and supporting the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality perioperative care while contributing to ongoing service development and improvement alongside the Theatre Band 7 team.

This is an excellent opportunity to further develop leadership and specialist theatre skills within a renowned neurosurgery setting, supporting a highly skilled workforce and delivering an excellent patient experience across Neuro Theatres. The team is supported by an experienced Lead Nurse and Matron, promoting a collaborative, innovative, and supportive working environment.

Main duties of the job

Act as a professional role model, demonstrating clinical excellence and leadership at all times.

Lead and coordinate the Neuro Theatre team, maintaining continuing responsibility for the effective management and organisation of the clinical area.

Take responsibility for patient safety, patient experience, and the overall quality of care within the Neuro Theatre Department.

Undertake patient assessment and clinical management, ensuring the team consistently delivers a high standard of care.

Ensure the wellbeing, dignity, and comfort of patients are maintained at all times.

Support the development, teaching, appraisal, and wellbeing of all staff, including registered and unregistered team members.

Manage designated budgets effectively and contribute to the efficient use of departmental resources.

To work in accordance with the NMC / HCPC Code of Professional Conduct, Trust Policies and Procedures To act as an expert for the care of a specified group of patients, providing effective leadership, acting as a positive role model and demonstrating advanced specialist practitioner skills. To ensure compassionate care is delivered at all times in designated clinical area. To take remedial steps where this is not consistently delivered. To ensure patient privacy and dignity is maintained at all time and to be complaint with single sex accommodation. To communicate effectively with patients, their relatives and carers and all healthcare personnel To be fully involved in the health education of patients and relatives, taking every opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle. To promote a holistic and multi disciplinary approach to care, ensuring continuity of care. In conjunction with the matron and other clinical co-ordinators within Inpatient Theatres, to develop clinical policies and protocols relevant to the area, ensuring that practice is evidence based To be responsible for compliance with key quality indicators within designated clinical area. To activate remedial plan to improve any non compliance, ensuring involvement and engagement of the matron Education and Research

To ensure the development and provision of a good quality clinical learning environment that supports students and continuing professional development. To be responsible for ensuring that a professional support system is developed and implemented for all practitioners within the department. In conjunction with the Practice Development Nurse ensure that staff receive appropriate education Together with the Practice Development Nurse, to ensure the designated staff have up to date completed all mandatory learning programmes To liaise with the Link Tutor/Lecturer Practitioner and foster good relationships. To participate in the Educational Audit in conjunction with the Link Tutor/Lecturer Practitioner. To participate in Trust approved research studies, keeping the Assistant Director of Nursing (Education and Research) informed of progres To work with all senior practitioners in the unit to develop a Divisional strategy which allows nursing / perioperative expertise to be developed and shared Together with the Matron and Practice Development Nurse to ensure proactive recruitment and retention of staff within the designated area Management

To be responsible for the organisation and management of the designated clinical area on a 24-hhour basisTo ensure staff rosters are completed accurately and in a timely manner To ensure staff skill mix within staff rosters are compliant with patient safety and experience needs of the clinical area To ensure manpower returns, such as, annual leave, sickness, and other absences are clearly recorded and acted upon. Ensuring weekly feedback to the matron To work within allocated budgets and ensure appropriate utilisation of resources. Together with the Matron and Service Manager, review clinical area workload, acuity and throughput on a regular basis. To ensure adhoc staff bookings are compliant with the departments policy and that adhoc staff are properly inducted and supervised during their shift. To complete the weekly bank and agency reporting system accurately and in a timely manner. To participate and champion theatre efficiency and productively work streams and where required, lead on the work streams With the help and guidance of the matron and Human Resource Manager, to be proactive in staff management, such as, sickness, conduct, capability, etc, ensuring a fair and consistent approach To ensure patient safety at all times within the department and to report any near misses or any clinical incidents through the formal reporting system To be responsible for the investigation of any clinical incidents and implementation of any improvement plans within designated clinical area. To ensure the matron is aware and approves the improvement plans To ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations and be responsible for the implementation of safe working practices, including ensuring training, maintenance and/or replacement of equipment as necessary At the request of Matron or Service Manager to undertake any additional audit and service changes to support the department To be responsible for ensuring all staff members appraisals are complete and an appropriate Professional Development Plan is in place Responsible for ensuring confidentiality and safekeeping of records with regards to patients and staff in line with Caldecott guidelines To carry the Unit bleep as required, resolving local problems / conflicts, keeping managers/others informed. To maintain positive team dynamics within the department at all times Promote and maintain good working relationships with other departments and the multi disciplinary team To be actively involved with any plans in relation to service development, service improvement, and the resolution of any on-going problems To be aware of wider Trust objectives, regional and national policy and their impact on local service delivery Personal Professional Development

Person Specification

Shortlisting Essential

Registered Nurse Level 1 or Registered Operating Department Practitioner. A minimum of BSc degree or working towards it Significant and proven clinical and management skills within a relevant clinical field Has demonstrated leadership skills in a supervisory/team leader context

Desirable

Experience of having turned a negative situation into a positive one or active involvement in the resolution of a complex or sensitive issue Has presented the management case in an internal disciplinary proceeding. Willingness to be helped to acquire any required but currently outstanding skills in order to fulfil the role.
