Main duties of the job
We are looking for GPs who have:
MRCGP qualification.
GMC registration with a licence to practise.
Inclusion on the NHS National Performers List.
Excellent clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
A passion for improving patient care.
An interest in clinical leadership, service transformation and multidisciplinary working
Collaborate with Practice Management, PCNs, and SPC leads to drive service improvement and staff development.
Oversee clinical quality and safety, ensuring best practice through NICE implementation, significant event reviews, and compliance with CQC standards.
Coordinate practice education and supervision, ensuring clinical staff remain up to date with policy and guideline changes.
Provide supervision for GPs and non-medical prescribers in line with SPCs Clinical Leadership Model.

Within these overall goals, the role of the Senior Lead GP is as follows:
a) Clinical Leadership
Provide visible clinical leadership
Be a point of contact for practice staff who need support and guidance over quality and safety concerns. This may include a formal role in some staff members appraisals in some instances.
Develop clinical governance strategies, systems and processes and ensure the active participation by all medical staff.
Works with practice management to lead the wider practice team including regular
attendance at practice meetings
Support career development of clinical staff
Build relationships with SPC Education Lead, Senior GP leads and ACP clinical leads from other SPC Practices and share learning and good practice
Play a key role in service improvement planning for the future, bringing the quality and safety concerns to the fore and ensuring these are balanced with organisational and financial concerns.
Develop and maintain active working relationships with PCNs
Sign off and implement any additional policies/procedures as required
Be responsible for leading on the clinical components of QOF/LCS and IIF
Attend quality assurance meetings and education meetings with other senior clinical lead GPs and with Medical Director for quality assurance purposes and agree to work in line with SPC Clinical Governance structure
To work collaboratively with practice management operational team and ACP clinical lead as practice executive team
b) Clinical Quality/Safety
Be responsible for taking an overview of the clinical functions in your SPC GP practice in terms of service quality and safety.
Ensure that the systems exist to embed best clinical practice into the service (e.g. implementation of NICE guidance, record keeping etc.)
Take the overall lead for review of clinical aspects of Significant Event reviews and complaints, ensuring that learning points are captured, documented, actioned and embedded into practice
Be responsible for leading on the clinical components of CQC readiness
Ensure that the systems exist to embed patient safety across the service (e.g., record keeping, national and local safety alerts)
Take the overall lead for arranging practice education meetings and ensuring that clinical staff are made aware of changes to clinical guidelines and policy
Be the Caldicott Guardian for your SPC Practice
Be the lead clinician for ensuring that all areas of clinical leadership (see SPC Clinical Leadership Model) are covered within the practice
c) Supervision
You will be responsible for delivering peer-based support across the practice team and be responsible for arranging the group supervision of practice based non-medical prescribers alongside the ACP Clinical Lead
Provide supervision in line with SPC Clinical Leadership model
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
A medical practitioner whose name is included in the General Practitioner Register under article 10 of the General and Specialist Medical Practice Order 2003 Accredited as a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP) or have 5 years experience as a full time GP with a demonstrable commitment to quality practice. Currently on a performers list and not suspended from that list or from the medical register Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check Evidence of continued professional development
Skills and Knowledge Essential
