About this role

This post is full time and fixed term for up to 5 years. The project starts in January 2026 and ideally the successful candidate will start as soon as possible after the interviews.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate to make a leading contribution to the European Research Council-funded ‘Rehabilitation and Reintegration in Europe’ [RaRiE] project, working with Professor Fergus McNeill (PI), the RaRiE project team, and within the Criminology subject area in Glasgow.

By examining evidence from three countries that are often considered ‘progressive’ (the Netherlands, Norway and Scotland), the RaRiE project will help us better understand whether and where rehabilitation lives up to its ideals, and to creatively, critically and comparatively interrogate its development and prospects, its coherences and contradictions, its rhetoric and its realities, its pitfalls and its possibilities.

Since the 5-year project involves collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow, Leiden and Oslo, and the successful candidate will be required to travel regularly between these institutions, working in an international research team of 9 people (4 based in Glasgow, 3 in Leiden and 2 in Oslo).

The successful candidate will be expected to manage and conduct key aspects of the project, work collaboratively with the 4 investigators, with 3 PhD researchers, and with the project administrator; and to lead and/or contribute to the formulation and submission of research output of various sorts.

Informal enquiries should be directed to Professor Fergus McNeill, [email protected].
