About this role

Job summary

The post sits within the Acute and Integrated Community Care Directorate.

The post holder would be expected to champion a frailty approach to care and use comprehensive geriatric assessment to achieve the best care possible outcomes for older adults living with frailty in the Trust.

The successful applicant would spend some clinical sessions with the Acute Frailty Team providing clinical supervision to the MDT and the advanced clinical practitioners. They are expected to work with the team in ED and on the MAU to complete acute comprehensive geriatric assessment for older adult's presenting with frailty crises and provide senior level reviews.

Hours per week: 10 PA's

Main duties of the job

Responsible for patients on acute COTE Ward 2, on a 25 bedded, acute delirium and dementia ward. This ward is staffed with a variety of trainee Doctors, and it is expected that clinical supervision would be provided to some of these trainees. It is expected they would lead the ward-based MDT.

There will be the opportunity to develop a weekly clinic, which will be tailored to the successful candidates interests.

Person Specification

Eligibility Essential

Full registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council (GMC) Has completed a minimum of 12 years' postgraduate medical work (either a continuous period or aggregated) since obtaining their primary medical qualification. Of this, a minimum of 6 years should be within the relevant speciality in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed grade SAS grade roles Equivalent years' experience in a relevant speciality from other medical grades including overseas experience will be accepted

Desirable

Appropriate higher degree (e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent)

Qualifiacations and Training Essential

MBBS or equivalent Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent

Desirable

Higher Degree Participation in a management training course Teaching Qualification

Clinical Knowledge & Expertise Essential

Wide experience in all aspects of Care of Older People including orthogeriatrics / Fraility Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and up to date with medical advances Knowledge and appreciation of the core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice Experience of recent and current research/relevant publications Experience of teaching/training

Desirable

Wide experience in all aspects of General (Internal) Medicine Completion of other courses relevant to the care of older people Ability to lead clinical research project Attendance at a 'Teaching for Teachers' or similar course

Safety Essential

Can demonstrate a commitment to putting patient safety at the heart of all activity
