Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Estates Manager to join our Operational Estates Team at Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the delivery of a high-quality estates maintenance and compliance service across a diverse healthcare estate. You will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, statutory compliance, asset management, CAFM system management, and the leadership of both the Estates Maintenance and Logistics teams

Working closely with the Head of Estates & EDTS, you will provide technical leadership, oversee engineering compliance, manage projects, and act as an Authorised Person for relevant engineering disciplines.You will also participate in the Estates on-call rota and support the Trust's commitment to providing safe, efficient, and sustainable healthcare environments.

This is a full-time position based at St Marks Hospital in Maidenhead with regular travel across Berkshire Healthcare sites and flexibility to attend sites outside normal working hours when required.

Main duties of the job

Lead the delivery of planned and reactive estates maintenance services across Trust sites.

Manage engineering compliance, statutory inspections and maintenance records.

Oversee the CAFM system, ensuring asset registers and planned preventative maintenance schedules remain accurate and up to date.

Act as an Authorised Person for designated engineering systems in accordance with HTM requirements.

Manage and support Estates Maintenance staff, Logistics PPE teams and Health Bus Drivers.

Monitor contractor performance and ensure services meet quality, safety and value-for-money standards.

Lead one states compliance audits, remedial actions and governance improvement plans.

Support the planning and delivery of capital, back log and minor works projects.

Participate in the Estates on-call rota and provide technical support during major incidents and emergencies.

Provide specialist estates advice to senior managers, clinical teams and external partners.

Job description Job responsibilities

The must have's for this role:

Degree in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), Building Services, or equivalent experience, together with a recognised apprenticeship and engineering-related HNC/HND qualification.

Significant experience within a hospital estates environment or equivalent engineering/ industrial setting, including maintenance management and statutory compliance.

Extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, engineering systems, estates compliance, maintenance planning and risk management.

Strong leadership, communication and project management skills, with the ability to lead teams, manage contractors and deliver high-quality estates services.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications/Training Essential

Recognised apprenticeship and Engineering related HNC/HND Degree in engineering (electrical or mechanical), building services or equivalent experience Specialist engineering training

Continuous Professional Development Essential

Evidence of continuing professional development Membership of professional organisation or actively progressing registered status

Previous Experience Essential

Significant experience in a hospital estates environment or equivalent industrial experience

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Essential

In depth knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and risk management In depth knowledge of statutory compliance Good working knowledge of modern building services techniques and standards Demonstrable maintenance supervision experience Sound knowledge of trade principles and practice Broad level of engineering knowledge (elect & mech), techniques, systems and standards Maintenance planning and organisation Good communication and interpersonal skills at all levels, across all disciplines High level of technical ability Advanced Computer / keyboard skills including Word, Excel and specialist programmes Asset management experience

Desirable

Knowledge of NHS technical documents, British standards, regulations, legislation and codes of practice Authorised Person or equivalent for engineering installations or systems
