Job summary
We are seeking an experienced and motivated clinician to join our team at Birmingahm Heartlands Hospital as a Senior Audiologist on a 12 month fixed term basis who has specialist interest in adult tinnitus management, hearing therapy and vestibular rehabilitation
In this role, you'll provide specialist support to adult audiology services such as tinnitus management, hearing therapy, and balance rehabilitation across the Trust. You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including health and social care professionals, students and trainees, and external agencies, to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
You will utilise advanced clinical skills to assess, advise, and deliver appropriate management plans, including counselling and rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job
The role includes the provision of specialist services to include tinnitus support, hearing therapy, and balance rehabilitation across the Trust. The postholder will utilise advanced clinical skills to assess, advise, and deliver appropriate management plans, including counselling and rehabilitation.
The postholder will be required to work autonomously, undertaking a full range of clinical duties without direct supervision. This includes undertaking a full range of adult audiological assessments, including highly complex cases. Comprehensive history taking, assessment of impact and expectations, and the use of diagnostic tests such as pure tone audiometry, tympanometry, and acoustic reflex measurements. Analayse and interpret results from a range of complex audiological assessments and determining appropriate clinical actions, including the need for medical referral, treatment options, or discharge. This will include sensitively communicating diagnoses, including permanent hearing loss, to patients. Fit and programme digital hearing aids using real ear probe microphone measurements where appropriate, ensuring optimal outcomes. Provide patients with clear instruction on the use, care, and troubleshooting of devices.

The role requires highly developed communication skills, including the ability to convey complex and sensitive information effectively to patients and their families/carers. This will involve the use of empathetic, motivational, persuasive, and negotiation skills to support patient understanding, engagement, and decision-making.
The postholder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including health and social care professionals, students and trainees, and external agencies, to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.
The postholder will be expected to maintain and further develop their specialist knowledge and clinical competencies, working in accordance with Trust policies, professional standards, and relevant codes of conduct. They will also contribute to service development and improvement, demonstrating a proactive and motivated approach to enhancing patient care.
They will work independently across multiple sites, including as a lone practitioner where required, with access to remote support from senior staff as necessary. They may aslo be required to deputise for the Advanced Hearing Therapy Practitioner in their absence, within agreed parameters and scope of practice.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* BSc in Audiology with equivalent training and experience in hearing therapy OR pre-2004 Hearing Therapy qualification with equivalent postgraduate-level knowledge, supported by the Certificate of Competence in Audiology (CAC or equivalent). * Registration on a UK professional board (AHCS or HCPC).
Desirable
* Evidence of Post Qualification courses related to job description specialisms e.g. Higher Training Scheme certificate in Advanced Rehabilitation and Tinnitus * Evidence of CPD including post registration training in relevant courses * Membership of BSA, BAA * CBT/Counselling/Acceptance Therapy
Experience Essential
* Experience with a broad variety of complex, non-routine patients associated to the postholders speciality * To have demonstrable experience in all areas of rehabilitative audiology. * Knowledge of a range of management options for tinnitus and communication difficulties. * Evidence of CPD
Desirable
* Presenting to professionals and non professionals in small and large groups. * Experience of Auditbase administration * Mentoring, Supervising and training students/junior staff * Experience of service development, audit and research
