Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

In relation to Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker roles, we are currently able to recruit successfully from the domestic labour market and have a sufficient pool of suitably qualified and appointable candidates. As a result, visa sponsorship is not available for this role at this time. This position is kept under regular review and may change in the future .

Interviews

If you are shortlisted for an interview for this role, you must bring evidence of the following qualifications:

GCSE Maths and English at grade A-E / 9-2 or Level 1 Functional Skills for Maths and English. If you hold overseas GCSE equivalent qualifications, you will need to bring an ECCTIS comparability statement for you GCSE equivalent qualifications along with your original certificate.

If you do not bring the above qualifications to your interview, then the interview will not proceed.

Prior to interview you will be required to sit the UHNM Maths & English test (Total-6 questions) at the start of the interview and need to gain 6/6 in order to proceed to the formal interview. They have 15 minutes to do this test. If a candidate has any additional needs such as learning difficulties such as dyslexia, the time can be doubled to 30 minutes.

Main duties of the job

Ward 128 are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working Band 3 clinical support worker to join our friendly team. We specialise in the care of respiratory patients and are the regional centre for patients with Cystic Fibrosis

The primary role of a Band 3 Senior Clinical Support Worker is to assist, support and work incollaboration with the Registered Nurse and the wider multidisciplinary team; in order to provide asafe and holistic approach to person-centred care.The Senior Clinical Support Worker should actively contribute to the health and well-being ofpatients, staff and service users and be able to communicate effectively with sensitivity andcompassion. They should be able to work independently within their sphere of nursing while underthe supervision of registered nurses. Senior Clinical Support Workers should demonstrate a level ofskill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific skills and tasks delegated by theregistered nurse and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies at UHNM. Theywill be required to undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have beentrained and assessed as competent.Key to this role is flexibility with the requirement for staff to work variable shifts over 7 days a weekon a week by week basis within agreed limits.

Job description Job responsibilities

It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process eachyear and with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment. Communicate and report any changes or information relating to the patient to theRegistered Nurse. Communicate appropriately with patients and visitors to the Ward or Department. Always portraying a professional and respectful manner. To receive patients, visitors and staff in a calm, friendly and efficient manner. Exchanges factual information with patients using reassurance, tact and empathy. Overcome barriers to understanding for example, dealing with patients with physical ormental disabilities. The post holder will be required to undertake as appropriate any training packagesrelevant to the healthcare setting and do on-going training as determined by the Trustand/or by their line manager. Condition of Employment (If the candidate holds a Level 3 Qualification in Health and SocialCare but no Care Certificate, they must complete the National Care Certificate within 3 months ofcommencing employment in the Band 3 SCSW role). All new Clinical Support Workers are required to complete both Corporate and Care CoachInduction within their first week of employment. The post holder will work towards completion of a vocational qualification in care asagreed in their PDR. Have a duty to respond and report patients condition in a timely manner. This will includejudgements involving facts. Hold basic keyboard skills. Dexterity to undertake nursing care procedures as appropriate. Under direct or non-direct supervision of a Registered Nurse as deemed appropriate andwill assist with all aspects of essential patient care.

Provision of personal care to patients. Respects patient privacy and dignity at all times. Prepares equipment/s for medical and nursing staff to use during procedures.The best joined-up care for all Assist medical and nursing staff with procedures as required. Act as a chaperone, supporting patients undergoing examinations or procedures. Escort patients to other areas of the Trust as directed by the Registered Nurse. Follows policies and may participate in discussion on proposed changes to procedures. Demonstrates safe working practices in the use of equipment in the clinical areacompletion of mandatory training. Engages with individual training programs and local protocols, checks and cleansequipment/s. Under the direction and supervision of the sister / Charge nurse order stocks and suppliesand ensure they are stored appropriately. Demonstrates their own duties to new starters and bank / agency staff. Adheres to Trust Standards of Dress policy. Completion of relevant patient documentation under direct or non-direct supervision of aRegistered Nurse as deemed appropriate. Maintenance of computer and manual information systems

To request case notes and provide a tracing service. Occasionally participates in audits, surveys, research and development activities. Will have a delegated workload within the remit of their capabilities. Turns, manoeuvres patients for toileting and bathing using appropriate aids. Care of terminally ill patients and supports in the event of a patients death. Concentrates on personal care duties and can follow a routine. The post holder may be exposed to bodily fluids.
