Job OverviewOur client is seeking an experienced Heavy Wheeled Equipment Field Technician to join their growing service team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and servicing a wide variety of heavy construction and earthmoving equipment at customer job sites. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional with strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills who enjoys working independently while providing exceptional customer service.
This is a field-based position requiring travel to customer locations to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy construction and earthmoving equipment in the field. Perform preventive maintenance on excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, articulated trucks, skid steers, compact track loaders, backhoes, rollers, and other heavy equipment. Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain components, transmissions, final drives, and braking systems. Inspect equipment and identify mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical failures. Utilize electronic diagnostic software, OEM service tools, and technical manuals to identify and repair equipment issues. Repair or replace components including hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, injectors, turbochargers, cooling systems, and electrical wiring. Perform welding, fabrication, and minor machining repairs when necessary. Complete service reports, work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance documentation accurately and timely. Maintain company service truck inventory, tools, and equipment. Communicate repair recommendations and equipment status with customers and service management. Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and manufacturer repair procedures. Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide timely field support to minimize customer downtime. Participate in after-hours or on-call service rotation as required. Maintain a professional appearance and provide outstanding customer service.
Requirements
Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical school or diesel technology certification preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience repairing heavy construction or earthmoving equipment. Experience servicing equipment from manufacturers such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, Hitachi, Case, Hyundai, Doosan, or similar brands preferred. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and electronic controls. Experience reading hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and service manuals. Proficient using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. CDL is a plus but not required. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
