About the Role
As an M&A Business Development, you will support a critical element of our investment efforts by identifying and cultivating acquisition opportunities that align with our long-term investment strategy. This role collaborates closely with the M&A team on deal execution. You will play a key role in identifying leads for vertical market software businesses, developing/maintaining relationships with founders and investment bankers as they pursue an exit. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills, is meticulously organized to ensure all relationships are maintained, financially literate with the ability to assess whether a software business is a strong strategic and financial fit at a high level.. This role requires creativity in developing sourcing strategies, comfort engaging with founders and intermediaries over long time horizons and a strong judgement in determining which opportunities merit deeper exploration. Responsibilities
Develop and execute sourcing strategies to support initial lead gen for software businesses in Helios investment criteriaIdentify and engage potential acquisition targets within the vertical market software landscapeBuild and maintain long-term relationships with founders, operators, brokers, though regular outreach, calls and follow-ups ensuring that Helios is well-positioned once counterparty is exploring a potential exitGather, synthesize and communicate preliminary financial and operational information to support early investment assessment and internal discussions, including review of revenue, profitability, growth trends, and customer concentrationCommunicating with the investment team on a regular basis the critical relationships that the team should explore in further depthSupport initial investment rationalization for early-stage M&A processesThis role will require significant travel Ideal Candidate Profile
2-3 years of relevant work experience in M&A, business development, corporate development, consulting or a related fieldFinancially literate with the ability to interpret basic financial statements and assess key value drivers in software businesses Comfortable evaluating founder-led businesses with imperfect financial information and asking the right questions to assess quality and riskStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with credibility in conversations with founders and brokersExcellent time management and organizational skillsSelf-motivated and entrepreneurial with the ability to creatively set and execute origination strategiesBachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related discipline preferredEnglish fluency: Fluency in additional languages is preferred but not required#Helios
