The role
A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work in the Lennox Lab (www.LennoxLab.com) to work on the development of new fluorinating reagents.
What will you be doing?
The PDRA will be required to work on multiple projects simultaneously, but their primary responsibility will be on the development of new fluorinating reagents. Experience will be required in the safe handling of anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and the development of physical organic models to assess their reactivity. High level computational techniques will be used to aid understanding. This exciting multidisciplinary project will involve a combination of techniques associated with inorganic and organic synthesis, computational calculations and spectroscopy.
You should apply if
The successful candidate should have a PhD in Chemistry or have submitted their thesis prior to taking up the appointment or equivalent professional qualification/experience. They will have a keen interest and enthusiasm to expand their expertise into new areas and in unfamiliar disciplines, to work on high risk/high reward projects, and to work beyond the traditional boundaries of organic chemistry both independently and through collaboration. The candidate will have extensive expertise in fluorination and fluorinating reagents and also computational chemistry. The candidate will be comfortable in the safe handling of toxic and hazardous materials, and be proficient in the accurate characterisation of complex organic molecules. They will have excellent communication and organisational skills, and will be capable of working under their own initiative. They will be expected to interact productively with other members of the research group working on related projects.
