About Economics at EIT

EIT Economics is recruiting full-time Pre-Doctoral Research Fellows to help build the economic case for transformative solutions to global issues. Under the leadership of Professor Andrew J. Scott, this rapidly growing team will explore frontier topics in the economics of health and work.

EIT offers a dynamic research environment focused on both foundational and applied work—rethinking policies, institutions, and economic frameworks to support a better future. Fellows will join a large, expanding Economics team with strong links to a world-class AI group and access to large-scale datasets. You’ll collaborate with global academic experts producing research that informs policy and drives commercial innovation.

You’ll be part of a cohort of Postdoctoral and Pre-Doctoral researchers. Positions are full-time, offered on one- or two-year terms, with potential for renewal based on performance. Rotation across projects is possible.

These roles offer a unique opportunity to engage with leading academics and policymakers, build research credentials, and prepare for careers in academia, policy, or business.

About the Role

Projects span theoretical and empirical topics, with assignments based on your strengths and interests. You’ll work closely with academic and policy experts, lead research efforts, and coordinate with other researchers. Areas of focus include:

Modelling links between biology, health, disease, and economic outcomes (e.g. labour force participation, earnings, retirement) Building micro-founded models for preventative health Developing health metrics using large datasets and causal inference techniques Evaluating welfare gains and resource allocation in health Improving health system productivity through economic analysis Forecasting the impact of AI, robotics, and demographic trends on GDP, employment, and public finances

Skills Required

A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) with substantial quantitative coursework Strong quantitative background Experience with programming languages (e.g. MATLAB or Python) Experience with statistical software (e.g. R or Stata) Ability to work across broad scientific missions and economic challenges

We seek highly motivated candidates with strong technical skills and a creative approach to problem-solving. Health economics expertise is not required—emphasis is placed on economic thinking and analytical ability.
