About this role

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and skilled dietitian with experience and skills in all aspects of delivering adult general outpatients including face to face and virtual clinics. Previous experience in this area is essential. This may also involve working with patients experiencing cancer so a knowledge of cancer treatments, related side effects and palliative care, along with NHS experience would be highly desirable.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centred nutritional care and education to adults with complex needs in an out-patient setting,

The role will include:

- Planning, delivering, and monitoring individualised nutrition support and dietary treatments to outpatients

- Working collaboratively with Dietetic staff members and wider primary and secondary care based multidisciplinary team

- Liaising effectively with multidisciplinary care professionals at all levels

- Prioritising a dynamic workload, and demonstrating flexibility and resourcefulness in navigating outpatient workloads

- Contributing to service improvement and audit activity

- Contributing to pre-registration clinical training and teaching

Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, including observation, active listening, and the ability to communicate complex information clearly and compassionately.

You will be skilled at working autonomously but work well in a team and be able to creatively meet the challenges of working remotely. You will be involved in defined nutrition projects and quality improvement initiatives related to outpatient services.

About us

We are a large, friendly department based on 2 sites; Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) & Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH). There is free bus travel between these sites for Trust staff.

The Department of Dietetics is a dynamic and forward-thinking department operating across both hospital sites, structured into three key portfolios. These include Nutrition and Dietetics, encompassing acute services, renal, oncology, nutrition support, education, and the adult diabetes service; the Home Enteral Feeding Service, providing comprehensive care for adult and paediatric patients requiring enteral feeding across the county; and the Specialist Weight Management Service, delivering a specialist Tier 3 weight management programme.

The Department has an ambitious and evolving vision, striving to become a recognised centre of excellence for dietetics both regionally and nationally. Person Specification

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Essential

Degree/Diploma in Dietetics Registered with HCPC Evidence of successful clinical experience in being autonomous practitioner and able to act on own initiative Experience of running face to face and virtual outpatient services Experienced in all aspects of adult general clinc including nutritional support and relevant dietary treatment Experience of effectively maintain working relationship within a team Experience of nutrition screening tools and nutrition risk scoring e.g. MUST and nutritional supplements Implement evidence- based practice. Experienced all aspects of adult nutrition support, sip feeds and enteral feeds Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening, caring and empathy skills and can relate well to staff and patients. Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills including active listening skills. Ability to assess individuals with complex medical problems and to plan dietetic care based on clinical evidenced based practice and disseminate this to other health care professionals Ability to problem solve, be self motivated and desire to deliver a high quality service. To demonstrate Professional attitude to routine/non-routine tasks. and Trust required behaviours in working towards Individual, Department, Divisional and Trust Objectives/Goals Ability to deliver education sessions to patients, colleague and healthcare staff Prioritisation, planning and organisational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines Evidence of Continued CPD, including evidence of reflective practice, service evaluation and utilisation of best practice. Excellent computer literacy skills: email, data input, internet, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and knowledge of patient management systems Ability to work outside normal working hours, including occasional evenings if the service requires. Ability to recognise own professional limitations and when to seek advice from senior colleagues. An ability to interact with people with mental health problems and / or disabilities Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals To maintain Professional appearance and behaviours in the workplace

Desirable

Completed or working towards completion of relevant post-graduate study and experience of working at a senior level in this specialist area. Member of the British Dietetic Association Attendance on relevant accredited courses The ability to manage change and conflict to ensure resolutions with positive outcomes Experience in implementing clinical governance The ability to inspire, influence, persuade and negotiate. Ability to identify personal development needs Experience of handling difficult & sensitive situations well Experience of working in the NHS
