Saalex is seeking an Engineering Technician in Oxnard, CA/Santa Cruz Island, CA. Saalex is an Engineering and Information Technology Services company with a focus on Test Range Operations and Management, Engineering and Logistics Services, Data Analytics and Business Intelligence Services and Information Technology Services.

Essential Functions:
Monitor, service, and calibrate diverse electronic, mechanical, and ground equipment systemsDevelop and maintain technical data and documentation, including maintenance procedures, technical manuals, troubleshooting guides, and drawingsSupport test and evaluation, system checkout, and certification activities, including verification of off-site systemsProvide customer-facing support for system installation, testing, and fabrication activitiesOperate and maintain heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes) for road grading, erosion control, and site maintenancePerform facilities maintenance, including basic plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, and structural repairsMaintain logs, records, and databases for generators, fleet vehicles, and inventory trackingManage hazardous materials (HAZMAT) in accordance with environmental and safety requirementsEnsure compliance with environmental, military, and safety regulations, maintaining organized records and documentationOther duties as assigned or requiredRequirements
Required:
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues independently in a remote environmentProficiency in operating and maintaining heavy equipment (e.g., bulldozers, graders, backhoes)Strong written, verbal, and analytical communication skills for interfacing with military and civilian stakeholdersAbility to work independently with minimal supervision in a remote, multi-disciplinary role
Desired:
Experience supporting remote or austere environmentsExperience with HAZMAT handling and environmental compliance requirementsFamiliarity with preventative maintenance systems and lifecycle documentationExperience working with DoD or military customers
Education/Experience:
Vocational or technical training beyond high school or equivalent military training requiredMinimum 7 years of directly related experience
Security Clearance:
Must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance. Requirements to obtain a clearance include US Citizenship, security investigation, etc.
Working Conditions:
Work schedule consists of 8 consecutive 10-hour workdays onsite followed by 6 days off100% of on-site work is performed at Santa Cruz Island (remote environment)Employees are required to remain on the island for the full 8-day work rotation (no off-island travel during shift), but are Not on call 24/7 — responsibilities are limited to scheduled working hoursLodging is provided in on-site barracks accommodations during the work rotationRequires 2-hour ferry transit to and from the island at the start and end of each rotationFrequent lifting (up to 50 lbs) and extended periods of standing, walking on uneven terrain, and exposure to outdoor environmental conditionsBenefits
