About this role

Summary: VIAVI Solutions is seeking a Quantum Safe Test Engineer to join our global advanced innovation center in Singapore. This role focuses on hands-on laboratory testing, prototype validation, and system integration for quantum-safe communication technologies, including Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), and hybrid secure networking solutions. Duties & Responsibilities: Key Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on testing and lab operations for prototype quantum-safe communication systems. • Perform functional, performance, and interoperability testing of QKD, PQC, and hybrid secure networking components. • Operate and maintain optical and electronic lab instruments, such as optical spectrum analyzers and network analyzers. • Develop and execute automated test scripts (Python, C++, or similar) for system validation and long-term stability testing. • Set up and configure optical fibers, photonic devices, and secure network links in lab and field trial environments. • Support integration of cryptographic modules, key management systems (KMS), and network security functions into testbeds. • Collect and analyze experimental data, identify root causes of issues, and provide detailed test reports and improvement feedback. • Collaborate with global R&D and engineering teams to refine system design and ensure test coverage for all functional components.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements: Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.

Technical Expertise:

• Hands-on experience with optical and electronic laboratory setups, including fiber handling, photonics alignment, and signal measurement. • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++ for test automation, instrument control, and data analysis. • Working knowledge of network protocols (Ethernet, IP, TLS, IPsec) and cryptographic concepts (key exchange, encryption). • Familiarity with Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC), or quantum optics is highly advantageous. • Experience with Linux environments, network configuration, and protocol analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark) preferred. • Understanding of ETSI, ITU-T, or NIST quantum-safe standards is a plus.

Soft Skills:

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. • Excellent attention to detail and lab discipline. • Effective communication skills for cross-site collaboration. • Self-driven, adaptable, and comfortable working in a hands-on R&D lab environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in optical or network equipment testing, secure communication prototypes, or cryptographic hardware evaluation. • Prior involvement in quantum communication research, secure network testbed development, or telecom field trials. • Knowledge of hardware–software co-testing, optical calibration, and time synchronization systems. • Contributions to research projects, standardization activities, or patents related to quantum-safe networking.
