Salary ranging from $25-$32 per hour based on experience
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Monitor and maintain optimal fuel combustion in boiler systems to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
• Operate and control various equipment, including stokers, burners, or pulverized coal systems, to achieve proper fuel combustion.
• Monitor boiler gauges, meters, and control panels to ensure proper functioning and adjust controls as needed to maintain desired boiler performance.
• Monitor and regulate fuel feed systems, ensuring an adequate and consistent fuel supply.
• Perform routine inspections and tests on fuel systems, burners, and related equipment to identify and resolve any malfunctions or abnormalities.
• Clean and maintain boiler components, including removing ashes, clinkers, and debris from fireboxes, hoppers, and ash pits.
• Assist with the maintenance and repair of boiler systems, including replacing or repairing worn or damaged parts as needed.
• Follow established safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents, including fire hazards.
• Keep accurate records of boiler operations, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
• Collaborate with other team members, such as Boiler Operators and maintenance staff, to ensure smooth operation and maintenance of the boiler system.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Strong understanding of boiler operations, fire safety protocols.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.
• Knowledge of low-pressure steam and vacuum heating systems, feedwater heaters including deaerators and single feedwater control level systems, as well as feedwater treatment and testing.
• Boiler water sampling, testing and treatment as well as control of steam contamination.
• Knowledge of small non condensing turbines and proper procedure for replacing packing on valves and pumps.
• Knowledge of the effects of foaming, priming, scale, oil, etc. on the operation of boilers. Laying up of boilers, both wet and dry.
• Knowledge of Lubricants and lubrication methods for various types of lubricators and their uses on various boiler auxiliaries.
• Knowledge of the various types of safety valves and relief valves.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and processes.
• Excellent communication skills.
Education & Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year experience in a boiler or steam power plant as a steam engineer, fireman, control room operator, water tender, auxiliary operator or engineer's assistant; or held and used a Second-Class Fireman's License for at least 6 months.
• Technical/vocational school training and experience working with industrial boilers.
• Valid state boiler 1st Fireman license.
Physical Requirements:
• Physical stamina and the ability to work in a demanding environment (including standing, climbing, and lifting heavy objects, up to 35 lbs at a time).
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
