Level 2 Facilities Operative Apprenticeship – Carre's Grammar School

We are looking for a reliable and motivated individual to join us as a Facilities Operative Apprentice, supporting the smooth running, safety, and maintenance of the school site.

Apprenticeship Summary:

• Salary: £12,480 a year (based on £8.00 per hour) • Working Week: Monday to Friday 7.30am - 2pm (30 minute lunch break) • Hours: 30 hours per week • Online apprenticeship training supported by skilled tutors • Level 2 Facilities Operative Apprenticeship • Location: Northgate, Sleaford, NG34 7DD

The Role:

• Assist with the routine opening and closing of the school site, including support for lettings and events as required. • Support the facilities team in monitoring site security and reporting any concerns such as unauthorised access, damage, or safety issues to the Senior Estates Officer. • Observe and follow site security procedures, including safeguarding requirements when contractors or visitors are on site. • Support regular checks of the site to identify potential health and safety or maintenance issues, reporting findings to the Senior Estates Officer. • Assist with routine fire safety tasks, including weekly fire alarm tests and basic emergency lighting checks, in line with training and school procedures. • Support water safety checks and record keeping as instructed. • Work safely at all times, following COSHH assessments, risk assessments, and the school’s health and safety policies. • Carry out basic and minor maintenance tasks (e.g. replacing bulbs, simple repairs, setting up rooms), appropriate to training and competency. • Assist with logging maintenance issues and working with contractors under supervision. • Learn how to use tools and equipment safely and correctly in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations. • Support routine site tasks such as litter picking, waste management, moving furniture, and basic grounds maintenance as required. • Assist with the organisation and removal of confidential waste in line with school procedures. • Help prepare rooms and spaces for lessons, examinations, events, and lettings. • Assist with maintaining equipment, materials, and cleaning supplies in a clean, safe, and secure condition. • Support receiving deliveries and moving materials to appropriate storage areas. • Learn to help maintain inventories for tools, ladders, and furniture under supervision. • Observe and assist with supervising contractors on site, ensuring safeguarding and site rules are followed.

The Candidate:

Qualifications, Qualities & Experience • Basic experience or interest in cleaning and maintenance tasks. • Good practical and DIY skills. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Good communication skills (verbal and written). • Basic literacy and numeracy skills. • Ability to use cleaning products and equipment safely. • Awareness of health and safety practices. • Organised with good time management skills. • Flexible approach to work and problem-solving. • Ability to build positive working relationships with staff and visitors. • Understanding of confidentiality, safeguarding, and equality principles. • Willingness to learn and develop within the role.

Training and Development:

As an apprentice, you will receive support through both on-the-job learning and formal training as part of your apprenticeship programme. This will typically include: · Study towards a Level 2 Facilities Operative diploma qualification · On-the-job training and mentoring from experienced site staff · Regular progress reviews and development support
