The Opportunity

As the Campus Custodian Supervisor, you will oversee the cleaning and care of assigned campus areas while leading the employees responsible for those spaces. You will help ensure classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other facilities are clean, safe, organized, and ready to serve the Moody community.

This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role. You will supervise full-time custodians and student leaders, coordinate staffing and work assignments, inspect facilities, provide coaching and feedback, support hiring and training, and partner with departments throughout campus to address service needs.

Success in this role requires someone who can balance people leadership with day-to-day operations. You should be comfortable setting expectations, holding others accountable, adjusting priorities when needs change, and approaching both employees and customers with a service mindset.

What You'll Do

• Supervise custodial operations within assigned campus areas, ensuring work is completed on time and in accordance with Facilities Services cleaning standards.

• Develop and coordinate staff schedules, work assignments, routine cleaning responsibilities, and special projects for full-time employees and part-time student crews.

• Clearly communicate shift responsibilities, priorities, and performance expectations.

• Provide on-site leadership, coaching, and guidance to custodial staff while promoting accountability, teamwork, and high-quality service.

• Regularly inspect assigned buildings and spaces to ensure cleaning and service standards are consistently met.

• Conduct and document inspections using mobile technology and inspection software and review results with employees to identify opportunities for improvement.

• Directly supervise full-time custodians and student leaders, meeting with them regularly to provide feedback, discuss concerns, assist with problem-solving, and evaluate performance.

• Complete required employee performance evaluations and ensure student leaders receive appropriate feedback and evaluations each semester.

• Review and approve employee timecards and complete other administrative responsibilities associated with supervising the team.

• Communicate with departments throughout campus regarding work requests, service adjustments, concerns, scheduling, and the status of requests.

• Maintain housekeeping and workplace safety standards consistent with applicable safety requirements, including reinforcing the appropriate use of personal protective equipment and providing safety training as needed.

• Participate in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training full-time custodial employees and part-time student leaders in partnership with Human Resources and Facilities leadership.

• Support student leaders in effectively interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training student employees.

• Provide hands-on custodial support when operational needs require it.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Previous cleaning experience and working knowledge of custodial practices and safety procedures.

• Previous leadership or supervisory experience with the ability to monitor work, provide direction, and hold employees accountable for performance.

• Strong customer service skills with the ability to listen, understand concerns, and work toward timely and effective solutions.

• Ability to build effective working relationships with employees and departments across the organization.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, basic spreadsheets, and web-based applications.

• Ability to learn and effectively use new technology to support productivity and operational efficiency.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize work, delegate responsibilities, and coordinate schedules and competing priorities.

• Effective conflict-management and problem-solving skills with the ability to work toward constructive solutions.

• Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position as outlined in the Work Environment section.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous custodial experience at Moody Bible Institute.

• Experience operating custodial equipment and troubleshooting common equipment issues.

• Strong keyboarding and data-entry skills.

• Advanced computer skills.

Work Environment

• This is a full-time position, typically Monday through Friday.

• The position oversees employees whose schedules generally fall between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m.

• A varied schedule throughout the week and one late night is expected to ensure appropriate supervision of employees working different shifts.

• Occasional weekend work may be required to support campus events or supervise weekend crews.

• The position may also require overtime for certain annual events.

• This role works in a combination of office and campus environments.

• Office responsibilities involve the routine use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers, and may require sitting and computer use for extended periods.

• The position also requires regular movement throughout campus to conduct inspections, perform walkthroughs, support employees, and document findings using a mobile device.

• This includes walking between buildings, navigating stairs, and working outdoors when traveling between campus locations.

• At times, the supervisor may be required to perform custodial duties using tools and equipment such as mops, buckets, spray bottles, paper wipers, sponges, toilet brushes, carpet extractors, floor machines, wet vacuums, and other specialized cleaning equipment.

• Physical responsibilities may include bending, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and climbing ladders.

• The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push or pull carts, gondolas, and custodial equipment ranging from light to heavy weight.
