General Position Summary
Mercy Corps is looking for an Agriculture Coordinator who will be responsible for enhancing the capacity and access to resources for vulnerable farming households. This position focuses on implementing climate-resilient livelihoods practices and providing essential inputs to support sustainable income generation.
The Agriculture Coordinator works under the supervision of the Program Manager. S/he will be responsible for ensuring the successful implementation of Agriculture activities in Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
The Agriculture Coordinator supervises the Agriculture Officers (1 in Kandahar and 1 in Helmand). and will work closely with the Program Manager, Agriculture Coordinator, DRR Coordinator and other MC's relevant support functions to ensure successful implementation of the designed interventions. The Agriculture Coordinator will be based in Kandahar, requiring frequent visits to Helmand at least 40% of his/her time.
Essential Job Responsibilities
• Manage and implement the agriculture-related interventions in the target areas.
• Develop and deliver training programs on climate-resilient agricultural practices.
• Conduct workshops and field demonstrations to educate farmers on sustainable farming techniques.
• Collaborate with agricultural experts to ensure the training content is up-to-date and relevant.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments.
• Identify and assess the needs of vulnerable farming households.
• Coordinate the distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, tools, and fertilizers.
• Ensure timely and equitable distribution of resources to the targeted beneficiaries.
• Maintain accurate records of input distribution and monitor the usage and impact on farming activities.
• Provide ongoing support and technical assistance to farmers to enhance their agricultural practices.
• Facilitate the formation of farmer groups and cooperatives to promote collective action and resource sharing.
• Assist in the development of market linkages to help farmers sell their produce at fair prices.
• Regularly monitor the progress of activities and document outcomes.
• Prepare and submit detailed reports on the implementation of activities and their impact on farming households.
• Collect and analyze data to inform future program planning and improvement.
Program coordination and management
• Manage grant budget lines related to Agriculture in coordination with the Program Manager
• Enhance internal and external compliance through supporting incident reporting mechanisms when needed.
• Maintain and coordinate reporting and documentation with the Program Manager and other team members.
• Timely preparation of weekly, monthly, quarterly, and interim reports on Agriculture related activities and share with the Program Manager to inform the formation of the progress reports to the donor.
Team Management
• Develop the capacity of the team, deepen understanding of their roles and assist with career development.
• Assist team members with information, tools and resources to improve performance & reach objectives.
• Promote accountability, communicate expectations, and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one on ones and performance reviews.
