The Service Mesh Engineering team is a dynamic and experienced group responsible for developing our service mesh infrastructure, which forms the backbone of our microservice architecture. We help manage service-to-service connectivity, securing traffic, providing observability metrics, and enhancing service through proper use of Hystrix, timeouts, and rate limiting. Our team collaborates, using expertise in networking, infrastructure, microservices, and more.

Get to know the role
We're looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead our Service Mesh team – the group responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling our service mesh infrastructure (Istio) to power a, observable, and secure microservices ecosystem.
You'll guide a team of experienced engineers, collaborate with platform teams and business service teams, and shape the future of how our services communicate. If you're passionate about cloud-native networking, zero-trust security, and platform reliability, this role is for you. You will report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager and be based onsite at Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform
Lead the Team: Mentor engineers, foster a culture of ownership, and hire top talent.Lead the Service Mesh Strategy: Increase adoption of Istio, ensuring it meets performance, security, and scalability needs.Bridge Tech & Business: Work with service teams and platform teams to align service mesh capabilities with application requirements (e.g., traffic management, mTLS, observability).Optimize Performance: Solve challenges like latency spikes, sidecar overhead, and cross-group routing.Incident Leadership: Escalate issues for service mesh outages and complex debugging sessions. What Essential Skills You Will Need
5+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering, with 2+ years managing teams.Expertise in service mesh technologies (Istio, Consul, or Envoy).Hands-on experience with AWS Kubernetes, API gateways, and cloud networking.Grasp of security fundamentals (mTLS, RBAC, zero-trust).Debug distributed systems.
