Duties and Responsibilities
• Greets guests and presents them with a menu • Informs guest of specials and menu changes, makes suggestions and answers questions regarding food, beverages and service. Takes order promptly and repeats order back to guest • Proceed to kitchen in an orderly manner, collects respective order ensuring that the correct order has been prepared to avoid mistakes and delays. • Communicates with hostess, bus person, kitchen staff and bartender and coordinates entire station to ensure guest satisfaction • Serves courses from kitchen and service area promptly, garnishes items with proper presentation prior to serving • Ensures that guest drink order is taken within three minutes and refilled as needed • Serves alcohol responsibly by not over serving • Professionally handle over-indulged guests including cutting off service when necessary • Check guests at least twice during meal for satisfaction • May carve meat, bone fish and fowl, prepare flaming dishes and dessert at tableside, and present, open and pour wine when serving guests • Remains on assigned station throughout service observing and seeing to guest needs • Empties, replaces and cleans dirty ashtrays on tables regularly during service according to restaurant standards • Carries food items in proper manner so that spillage and accidents are at a minimum • Presents check (in folders with a pen) after entrée is served and guest satisfaction is acknowledged. Totals bills and accepts payment or refers guest to cashier or hostess, as appropriate • Advises manager of all guest complaints • Assists bus person with stocking work stations, removing and resetting soiled dishes and silverware from table at end of each meal, and cleaning and resetting vacant tables. Carries soiled dishes from all side stands at regular intervals to kitchen according to standards • Other assigned duties
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent vocational training • Minimum 2 years restaurant experience as a bus person, counter attendant or cocktail server • Strong communication skills • Certified or able to pass TIPS Training • Valid Food Handler's Certificate
