About this role
Responsibilities
• Manage the day-to-day underground utility infrastructure operations.
• Will direct a crew as a working foreman and perform skilled work in the installation and repair of gas and electric facilities.
• Supervise the installation of underground utilities including gas pipeline and electric conduit.
• Supervise a crew of skilled and unskilled workers or two or more small crews assigned to individual projects.
• Be responsible for industry and company standards for safe digging practices, trench box usage and installation.
• Work is performed under general direction of an administrative superior and is subject to periodic review by superiors for results obtained, changes in work methods, and adherence to departmental policies.
• Communicate with inspectors, customers and DCI employees in a courteous and professional manner.
• Safely operate heavy equipment-Loader and track backhoe/excavator.
• Perform basic preventive maintenance of equipment.
• Work within confined spaces (after required training) at varying depths.
• Excavate in a trench box and ensure proper trench grade.
• Assist with the installation of trench boxes.
• Must identify and communicate poor trench conditions to ensure safety.
• Assist during utility pipe repairs.
• Following plans to set pipeline and necessary depth and grade.
• Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises, etc.
• Keep company vehicle, tools, job site and equipment clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns.
• Comply with all DCI policies, procedures and safety requirements.
• Maintain employee time sheets and daily reporting meeting company requirements by utilizing current company technology.
• Meet or exceed production goals.
• Perform any other general duties as specified.
Job Requirements
• Two years’ experience managing an underground utility installation crew, familiar with safe digging practices, trench box usage and installation
• Knowledge of and experience reading, understanding, and implementing drawings.
• Basic mathematical skills are required.
• Thorough knowledge of and ability to properly establish benchmarks and grades.
• Must have communication skills to lead team in labor, equipment operation and other duties required by the job.
• Thorough knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction work.
• Must obtain a negative drug test result prior to hire and maintain throughout term of employment.
• Must have the ability to stand, crawl and kneel for long periods of time
• Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc.
• Valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record by complying with standards established by DCI policy.
