About this role
The essential duties and responsibilities include the following at a senior, enterprise-wide engineering level:
• Provide senior-level engineering, administration, and lifecycle management across the organization's LAN/WAN, server, virtualization, cloud, and collaboration platforms.
• Lead the design, implementation, optimization, and security of network infrastructure including switching, routing, VLANs, wireless, firewalls, and remote connectivity solutions.
• Serve as a primary engineer for Windows Server environments, Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, GPO policies, file/print services, and system hardening.
• Architect, deploy, and administer virtualization platforms (VMware) and enterprise storage, including performance tuning, resource optimization, and high-availability configurations.
• Provide advanced support and engineering for Office 365 / Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, identity integration, security compliance, and administration automation.
• Manage and operate Azure cloud services, hybrid identity, conditional access, MFA, and cloud-based infrastructure components in collaboration with internal technical teams.
• Support the design and enforcement of enterprise IT policies, security standards, and operational best practices across all infrastructure domains.
• Participate in enterprise-wide IT initiatives involving networking, telecommunications, cloud adoption, modernization, cybersecurity, and systems transformation.
• Provide escalated technical leadership for troubleshooting complex multi‑layer issues across network, server, cloud, and application stacks.
• Collaborate with business unit leaders and end users to solve infrastructure‑related business problems and deliver stable, secure solutions.
• Oversee SIP/VoIP and unified communications system configuration and support in conjunction with external vendors as needed.
• Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution, including backups, replication strategies, and recovery testing for both on‑prem and cloud systems.
• Provide cross-site support for all EGI business units and serve as a technical escalation resource for Infrastructure Team members.
• Maintain system integrity, availability, and performance through proactive monitoring, capacity planning, and analytical evaluations.
• Contribute to IT roadmap planning, recommending upgrades, modernization efforts, and new technologies aligned with organizational goals.
• Remain available for emergency response and critical after-hours support when required.
• Perform other duties as assigned while abiding by all Ellwood policies and attendance requirements.
Skills and Abilities
• Expert-level knowledge of LAN/WAN engineering, switching, routing, VLANs, and advanced firewall configuration aligned with least privilege principles.
• Deep understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Directory Services including group policy design and identity lifecycle management.
• Advanced proficiency with cloud services (Azure, Microsoft 365) including identity, security, compliance, and hybrid infrastructure.
• Strong capability in virtualization technologies (VMware), SAN storage, replication, and availability architectures.
• Advanced understanding of backup and disaster recovery methodologies spanning on‑prem systems, cloud services, and virtual infrastructures.
• Strong PowerShell/scripting ability and automation mindset for system deployment, configuration, and monitoring.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, capable of leading complex troubleshooting efforts and delivering efficient solutions.
• Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills, including the ability to lead initiatives across teams.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and operate effectively in rapidly changing environments.
• Ability to travel regionally as needed.
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Minimum seven (7) years experience in enterprise infrastructure administration across multi‑site environments, including networking, servers, virtualization, cloud, and security. (Elevated from Level II expectations.)
• Minimum five (5) years with VMware, SAN storage, and enterprise-level Microsoft technologies including Office 365 and hybrid/cloud integrations. 1
• Experience with firewall platforms, security hardening, backup technologies, identity management, and modern cloud-based services.
• Experience with Cisco Call Manager or other unified communications systems is a plus.
