[What the role is] Lecturer / Senior Lecturer (Makerspace+) [What you will be working on] Coaching and Mentorship
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to students, staff and start-ups on engineering-based projects/prototyping. • Foster creativity and critical thinking in a collaborative, inquiry-driven learning environment. • Assist learners in designing, prototyping, testing, and refining their projects.
Workshop Facilitation
• Design and lead hands-on workshops related to mechanical engineering, electronics, CAD, robotics, or other relevant areas. • Support cross-disciplinary projects that combine engineering with art, design, or coding.
Makerspace Management
• Ensure safe and effective use of tools and equipment (e.g. 3D printers, laser cutters, wood working machines, soldering stations). • Maintain, basic repair, and calibrate engineering tools and equipment. • Monitor inventory of materials and suggest procurement needs.
Industry Engagement and Curriculum Support
• Work with faculty and staff to integrate engineering projects into existing courses and programs. • Contribute to curriculum development focused on engineering design thinking and iterative learning. • Engage in initiatives in technological research and innovation, industry projects and consultancy work, which includes leading functional teams/projects, training/mentoring junior staff, etc • Support outreach programs and events to engage the broader community in STEM and making.
[What we are looking for]
• Relevant qualification in mechanical, electronics, mechatronics engineering or a related field with at least 5 years of professional work experience. • Hands-on experience with engineering tools and fabrication technologies (e.g., CAD software, microcontrollers, mechanical prototyping, additive/subtractive manufacturing). • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with learners from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. • Commitment to safety in a makerspace environment • Familiarity with project-based learning or inquiry-based teaching approaches. • Comfort with programming and electronics (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Python). • Working experience as an engineer or related field (coding and programming experience is a plus) • Experience working in a makerspace, innovation lab, educational setting or equivalent will be preferred.
