• Assists in inventory of supplies and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels.
• Completes Mandatory Education annually.
• Ensures completion of initial and ongoing competencies as required.
• Participates in continuing education, annual education and other learning experiences.
• Assists with the orientation and training of new clinical personnel.
• Demonstrates an understanding of CRASC Safety Plan and National Patient Safety Goals.
• Reports observed or suspected safety violations, hazards, and policy/procedure non- compliance to management.
• Participates in Practice Performance Improvement activities and monthly chart reviews as needed.
• Demonstrates proficiency in the safe operation and maintenance of all appropriate medical equipment.
• Verbalizes understanding for the location and use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Demonstrates understanding, location, and utilization of the "Spill Kit".
• Knowledgeable in location and use of eye wash stations.
• Maintains supply inventories and equipment necessary for the effective performance of the job.
• Maintains a safe, neat, organized, and clean work environment.
• Knowledgeable in Surgical Fire Safety and evacuation plan.
• Demonstrates knowledge and ability to perform the sterilization process.
• Operates Steam and Hydrogen Peroxide Plasma sterilizers, and Washer/Disinfectors.
• Appropriately wraps and seals packages prior to sterilization.
• Selects appropriate sterilization method for all items processed, based on written instructions.
• "Properly loads each sterilizer. Checks parameter settings against established standards before starting each cycle."
• Reads and interprets cycle charts and printouts to insure sterility.
• Properly records each item processed and places items in appropriate storage locations.
• Receives clean linen from the laundry and inspects each item for soil, holes & lint.
• Removes lint and folds linen in the prescribed manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform decontamination room duties.
• Assembles and wraps packs for Operating Room. Seals and labels packs for sterilization.
• Retrieves soiled instruments from Operating Room and all other areas.
• Records items received on appropriate forms located in Decontamination.
• Breaks down, cleans and decontaminates instruments, equipment and other items according to prescribed procedures.
• Counts all instrument trays received from OR and reports discrepancies.
• Instructs nursing personnel in proper use of reusable equipment as necessary.
• Demonstrates the ability to perform prep & pack room responsibilities.
• Assembles and Packages all surgical trays, including routine general surgery and specialty instruments according to written lists. Accurately records all instrument trays on Surgical Count Sheets.
• Checks all instruments for functionality.
• Uses computerized system to requisition as needed from Bulk Stores.
• Fills requisitions as needed.
• Communicates with staff any problems with the instruments (ex. missing, incomplete, damaged, etc.).
• Actively participates in CRASC Infection Control Program.
• Observes proper traffic control, hand washing, and attire regulations at all times.
• Participates in ongoing educational in-service programs to continually update procedures and increase ability and understanding.
