The role
The postholder will work on the Penguin Archive which is held on long term loan at Special Collections from the parent company Penguin Random House (PRH UK). They will catalogue the Penguin collections, help to clear permissions and rights, and support and facilitate research. The postholder will work closely with colleagues in the team and across the wider Library Service, as well as with PRH UK’s Library & Archive team based in Rushden as applicable.
What will you be doing?
You will undertake a full range of collections management activities, including appraisal, preservation, cataloguing and identification of material for digitisation and digital preservation You will ensure professional standards and ethics are complied with throughout all processes, including complying with information and rights legislation You will provide professional advice to researchers, students and stakeholders interested in the collection You will work with volunteers, colleagues and external groups on public engagement activities using archival material You will liaise with the PRH UK Library & Archive team over access requests and ongoing objectives for the role
You should apply if
You are a qualified archivist, are close to completing an archives qualification or have experience equivalent to a professional archives qualification You have demonstrable understanding and experience of principles and procedures relating to archival cataloguing, collections management and digital preservation You are excited by the prospect of making archives accessible to new audiences You have a sound knowledge of legislation and frameworks relating to information and intellectual property You have excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders
