About this role

The role

A post-doc position is available to join a team of researchers in Bristol investigating the genetic basis of wound repair and defence. Inspired by leads from a comparative proteomic study of plant versus fish wound responses, we will test how candidate “repair and defence” genes influence inflammation and other tissue damage responses to drive good and bad repair outcomes. Experiments will include live-imaging, immunohistochemical, and transcriptomic studies of wound repair using zebrafish and arabidopsis models tissue damage/repair.

You will join the lab of Professor Paul Martin, (http://www.bris.ac.uk/biochemistry/people/paul-b-martin/index.html).

The funds for this position are available until 31/12/2026.

What will you be doing?

You will:

Design and conduct in silico bioinformatic and live imaging experiments to investigate conserved wound repair genes and how they might impact various aspects of tissue repair and cell defence in animals and plants. Utilise various genetic and chemical knockout and knockdown approaches for testing function of candidate genes in zebrafish and Arabidopsis – readouts will include immunohistochemistry, light and TEM imaging approaches. Analyse and interpret experimental results; contribute to manuscript preparation and scientific dissemination. Engage in collaborative research within the department and wider university research networks.

You should apply if

You have:

A PhD (awarded or imminent) in a biological or biomedical science. You should have prior knowledge of tissue repair/regeneration or inflammation and experience of live imaging or working with tissue samples. Previous experience working with zebrafish (and Arabidopsis), is highly desirable but not essential. You are highly organised, eager to learn new skills, ambitious, and able to interact with a broad range of colleagues.
