Job Description POSITION SPECIFICS Title: Certified Nursing Assistant/Unit Secretary - Birth & Women's Care (Full Time PM/Nights) FTE: .9 FTE (72 hours per pay period) Schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5:15 pm to 2:45 am Holiday Rotation: Per unit guidelines Weekend Rotation: None On Call Requirements: None
POSITION SUMMARY The Birth Center Unit Secretary performs duties to ensure a well-organized unit by managing the flow of resources. The position also performs direct patient care under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
POSITION TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as communication link between other departments.
• Order supplies.
• Perform SOS staffing calls using the Send Word Now.
• Comply with all SPH standards, policies, practices and procedures. Is knowledgeable about safety policies and prepared to report codes as needed.
• Prepare, maintain and take down charts per unit protocol
• Enter birth certificate data.
• Manage birth reports.
• Manage and enter data into OB dashboard.
• Scan in documentation to the EHR
• Enter patient data into the WETRAC (Wisconsin EHDI Tracking Referral and Coordination) system
• Assist with Birth Center classes and online registration.
• Assist with managing provider case reviews.
• Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, provide direct patient care.
• Perform vital signs on both mothers and newborns according to policy.
• Perform glucose and newborn screening.
• Perform hearing screens on newborns.
• Remove foley catheters.
• Remove hepwell.
• Set-up for circumcisions and perform clean up.
• Set-up for newborn bilitherapy.
• Provide initial care for a delivered newborn under the direction of the registered nurse.
• Manage tasks of the infant security system
• Set up sterile delivery instruments.
• Document patient cares according to unit policies.
• Assist with discharge process such as a car seat check, accompanying a patient to their vehicle.
• Report changes in a patient’s physical or mental status to the nurse.
• Ensure a clean and safe patient environment equipped with adequate supplies for each patient.
• Protect patient privacy and maintains strict confidentiality.
• Care for patients' family members in a caring and sensitive manner.
• Document care provided and actions taken in a timely and appropriate manner.
• Float to other units as necessary.
• Assist in keeping the patient rooms, supply rooms and hallways neat, clean and orderly.
• Re-stock patient rooms after discharge
• Answer patient call lights.
• Treat all patients equally, compassionately and without regard to medical condition, social status, or race.
• Protect patients' rights.
• Participate in bedside report
• Participate in education by attending inservices, attend 75% of staff meetings
• Answer telephones
• Assist in maintaining safe environment
• Assist in other departments when requested.
• Assist with other duties as assigned.
